New 2017 CX-5 Revealed

Filled mounts and bushings again... get ready for blown motor mounts like the last gen mazdas. At least hardrace will probablu come out with hardened rubber versions.

Honda's CVTs are good in that they mimic a traditional automatic transmission, thereby elimination the high droning usually associated with CVTs. The problem is reliability though. Even Honda hasn't figured this out. I know of at least 3 that have been replaced at my local dealership on new CR-V's (my city is only 20,000 people) and my dad's 2016 Honda Accord has had 3 programming resets and still won't engage at times when putting into reverse from a standstill or drive after reversing. He's even had a couple of times where he got to the end of the driveway, waited for traffic to clear, then pressed the gas to hear the engine rev and little to no movement. He's quite thankful it's only a 2 year lease as he plans on handing it right back to the dealership.
My wife drove two Mini Cooper's with CVT. They never had issues other than an awkward "Gear shift" in manual mode. They are limited to how much power they can handle. Non the less the transmission was loud and whiny. But that tiny car got 40 mpg so.

Filled mounts....that sucks long term wise. Would be interesting if you can fit 1st gen CX-5 mounts. Otherwise aftermarket.

I've heard they're doing away with starting handles too. Maybe the hole will be hidden behind the number plate if you insist on having one.

This does not sound good. Could you expand on this a bit? How big of a negative is this?

Don't panic. One person suggests that hydraulic mounts are no good and everybody jumps like a lemming. Vehicle and component manufacturers spend millions on development to make vehicles better. Just because some Luddite thinks he knows better, doesn't mean he does. The bloody things haven't hit the showrooms yet.

It's the suspension bushings that are liquid filled on the 2017 not the motor mounts.

Car&Driver article about the 2017 CX-5 2.2D Skyactiv

in its home-market trim the new diesel pumps out 173 horsepower at 4500 rpm and 310 lb-ft of torque at 2000 rpm and is teamed with a six-speed automatic gearbox. Coming out of our first corner, the sharp pickup from low down in the rev range was a pleasant surprise, with the boost coming on at around 2500 rpm and remaining on tap until 4500 rpm. The transmission’s remapped shift schedule also assists in exiting corners faster, and downshifts are quicker, too.

Seems the 2017 model have 10 speakers and if I do my counting right thats means it will have a subwoofer (three speakers on the dash, four in the doors, two in the rear pillars and one sub).

What do you guys think?

Who are you calling a luddite? If you actually knew what I was talking about you wouldn't make that comment. There are plenty of (mazda) drivers who have had leaking motor mounts and it appears on the forums/fb pages for older gen 3s quite often. Where did I say I knew better? I was referring to to a known issue with hyrdrualic MMs on another mazda. Just because it's Mazda ( or any other corporation) doesn't mean they are infallible either. The cx5 alone has a few suspension related tsbs as it is.

Thanks, I misread the op, and it's no surprise mazda moved on from liquid filled mounts. Although a mm os just a large bushing so I'm curious how well these liquid filled mounts wil hold up.

No subwoofer. The center speaker on the dash was replaced with two tweeters in the a pillars

Bose Centerpoint 2.0 Surround Sound System in new 2nd-gen CX-9 has 12 speakers including 2 front dash tweeters、a front center dash "full-range" twiddler、and a subwoofer. Bose system in Mazda6 has 11 speakers with similar speaker setup like new CX-9 but without a subwoofer. Bose system in our 1st-gen CX-5 has 9 speakers with similar speaker setup like Mazda6 but without 2 front dash tweeters. Bose system in CX-3 has 7 speakers including 2 front dash tweeters and a subwoofer but it lost front center dash speaker due to no surround sound.

So if new 2nd-gen CX-5 has lost front center speaker but with 2 newly added front tweeters on A pillars, does it mean it'll lose surround sound too? Or it actually has added a subwoofer like CX-3 and CX-9?

Personally I believe that chances are very slim to have a subwoofer in 2nd-gen CX-5 as it would costs Mazda more money to have a subwoofer! :)

This is what the official pressrelease states:

Audio System

The system is optimally tuned to match the characteristics of an SUV, delivering clearer high-end sound along with a tighter bass sound. The new system also adds tweeters mounted in the A-pillars. Placing sound output close to the ears of the cabin occupants realizes a clearer, more natural sound.
The new CX-5 features a 10-speaker Bose premium sound system co-developed by Mazda and Bose that includes Boses own AudioPilot2 ambient noise compensation and Centerpoint2 surround sound system.

Heres an image of the 2016 system with 9 speakers:

And here is the interior of the 2017 modell. As you can see it still has a centre speaker on dashboard (behind media screen). This adds upp to: three in front, four in doors, two in rear pillars = 9. So where is the number 10?

I wonder if it will sound any better. On my 2014 GT, the rear speakers are barely audible and the centerpoint feature is useless.
