are non-amber front 1157 bulbs legal ?

:
2016.5 CX-5 GT
just out of curiousity, does anyone know or have used non-amber 1157 bulbs for the CX-5 front/parking lights ?

I can't stand the "egg yolk" OEM look , but those chrome colored 1157 are not bright at all

and the LED switchbacks need resistors, so just wondering if these are legal for the front ?

You should really regret you don't have GT Tech Package with LED headlights and LED DRLs otherwise you can do this simple mod to meet your desired lighting change at least for the night:

Simplest Mod for Your 2016 CX-5 Front Turn Signals with LED Lightings

Since you don't have LED lightings your front parking/turn-signal/side-marker lights are 1157NA bulbs instead of easy-to-modify 7444NA bulbs. The problem for you is you're missing LED DRLs which serve as front parking lights and/or side markers for other countries and also can be legal in the US. With dual-filament 1157NA amber bulb which serves as multi-purpose front parking/turn-signal/side-marker lights, you can't disable either one of them without cutting wire, and you can't make front turn signal non-amber with a clear 1157 bulb which is illegal all over the world! Other regions with halogen headlights have white "city lights" which serve as front parking lights, but that feature got eliminated on the CX-5.

But if you really can't stand an amber bulb during the day, the only way to eliminate it is to use a switch-back LED. Even that you still have a US-only amber side-marker reflector there which looks ugly too!

BTW, the 1156 single-filament clear bulb from your link isn't compatible to OEM 1157NA dual-filament bulb. They're not interchangeable.

blackCX5 ,

yrwei52 is right those clear 1156 bulbs in your link can't be used for the CX-5 dual 1157A,

I think you meant to ask about these,

they will work, but they won't emit amber color, more like a very light yellow/orange, far away drivers might not see your turn signal as obvious as amber color.....and police may give you a hassle if they happen to pass you from the opposite direction as your making a turn

just go with the LED switchbacks, they look awesome and I actually find that they add more illumination at night, ie, when at a red light, and pedestrians are crossing, their faces are actually illuminated more than without the white LED switchbacks, not sure if that makes sense, it's hard to explain, only those with switchbacks will understand.

like in another example, when remote starting and the parking lights are on, the white LED switchbacks are on, and I swear i thought it was the main headlights, but when I double checked, my mains were off, the white light were only coming from the switchback LED with the small projector lens at the tip...

see my post below for the switchback bulb I got.....

it's not hard at all to install the hyperflash resistors, see my post for instructions:

You can get chromed ones that are bright. The cheap ebay knockoffs are usually the dim ones.

thanks for heads-up ryan4130, can you post a link to buy the bright chrome colored 1157 bulbs ? the cheap ones I bought from eBay are junk, just can't stand the look of those ugly OEM egg yolk turn signals up front...

.... thanks in advance, much appreciated.

or I might just go with the switchback route, from tomcat's post, it doesn't look too hard at all, just leave the brown wire alone and connect the resistor to the yellow and black wires. plus from his post, also looks like the CX-5 has a metal crossbar on both sides that is perfect to mount the resistors.
