Rain drops don't wipe off while rolling down the windows?

Rain drops don't wipe off while rolling down the windows? no squeegee effect....

Does anyone else have this problem with the CX-5 ? its annoying and hazardous when driving at night..
Not sure what the problem is but as i roll down my windows to wipe water drops off, it fails to do so why?
Every other car i ever owned removed water droplets by rolling down the window.

I have tried Rain-x it works somewhat but have to drive at highway speeds to get the water to bead off but in local streets
when I roll down the window it doesn't wipe off the water.

something about the seal only tighten up once the window is all the way up but doesn't touch glass at any other time. Supposedly a new design to reduce road noise, but this doesn't help when you can't see when it rains. I would gladly give up some road noise to have a nice clean window in foul weather be it rain or snow.

I totally agree... that was one of the first things I noticed with mine. And to make things worse, the water seems to just drain down inside the door and exits through a few holes in the bottom. And not even the absolute bottom, it still leaves a nice mess for you to clean up. This does not seem like a smart thing design-wise... but then again, I'm not an automobile designer!

Bottom line... I've owned a 77 Impala, 89 Corolla, 2000 Ranger, 2007 Rav4, and 2016 CX-5. This is my first vehicle that seems to gladly accept water entering through the window area only to let it dribble out lazily on to the lower panels. Amazing.

well, i just checked, and you are right, I stood outside while I pressed the the window down and I actually saw the seals open about an 1/8" gap as the windows rolled down, they sealed shut at the last second when the window fully closed. this will be fun in snow days when snow sticks and I can't get it off. My old car squeegeed any rain or snow clean. I guess I'll give Rain X a shot..... no other alternatives unless someone can come up with something better.

does anyone know if the WeatherTech in channel deflectors help with this issue ?

they got this crazy contraption that blows air to remove rain from the side mirrors, I don't think they work....

I noticed this when we bought our 1998 Honda CR-V new, then 2000 BMW 528i, 2001.5 VW Passat, and now 2016 Mazda CX-5. I always thought the felt seal material is not as effective as older rubber seal wipping the water off, never noticed there is a gap when I roll the window down.

Yeah I wish the seal can wipe the water off. Fortunately we seldom have rain here in North Texas.

Say whaaaa? I used to live a hundred and fifty miles or so East of you (9 miles S of Waskom, if you want the exact), and saw plenty of rain.

East Texas does have a lot of more rain than North Texas. That's why you'll see some forest there. Our area looks green in summer but all because of the watering by the people otherwise all grasses would be yellow! We had water restriction enforced for the last several years until this year. No, not much rain here.

The seals on my 94 Integra don't really wipe the water off my windows, either. It's nothing new. That's why the interior of the door assembly has the vapor barrier, and the bottom has drain holes.

The reasoning likely is to help prevent the glass from scratching if you roll down the windows while they're dirty. A rubber seal scraping across them could be detrimental to the clarity of the glass, over time.

Rain-X does help a lot. I put Rain-X on wind shield, front side windows, side mirrors, and rear window. When driving at 40mph+, no need to use the wiper. Even at lower speed, the drops stay in their round shape, no smearing/blurring so I can still see through the glass and water drops just fine. Just need to re-apply every 2-3 months. I heard Aquapel seems to be better and last longer, haven't tried it myself though.

Looking at weather patterns I guess it makes sense. Everything sweeps up through Houston kindof on an angle up and to the East. I guess I didn't think it missed you guys, but I can see where it could.
