Manual conversion

Mazda protege5 99
I got a 99 protege5, it's a different trim from US P5s, no fog lights at all.

It is currently an automatic and I love and prefer stick, I just got it inspected and serviced for 700 or so bucks and rather not to sell it and get a manual.
I reckon I won't be able to do it myself, so I'm asking for around how much am I looking at?

This won't be the answer you're looking for, but paying a shop by the hour to do it would almost buy you another manual P5. Labor rates for most shops are 50-150 dollars per hour, and they will have 20+ hours in it.

All of the parts necessary to do it right (cluster, harness, PCM, center console, trans, shifter assembly, clutch and pedal) are very expensive individually and best purchased within a donor car. Usually you can buy the car, sell the parts you don't need, keep the ones you do, scrap the rest, and break even or even make a little money.

I second that.

If you do even a general search of ATX to MTX conversions with any vehicle, MOST people have a donor car where they source most of their parts from, as it is the cheapest/most effective way to do it. Just swap part for part.

That being said, if you do not feel like you could do it yourself, finding a manual Protege/P5 shouldn't be too hard to find in decent condition with alright mileage. It won't be the same as your 99, as P5's all had the facelifted body style, but thats a small price to pay for the peace-of-mind of a built by Mazda manual car.

Just my .02 cents
