2016.5 CX-5 Questions

Mine says 16.5 also. It isn't just a made up fad it is real and it is the coolest thing ever.
 
LOL! I agree... seems like they went out of their way to not call it a 2017... Hmmmmm.....(2thumbs)

I wonder if it has anything to do with the 2017 fuel economy rating changes?

Most cars are getting 1-3MPG lower for 2017 model year vs 2016.
It sure looks to me like Mazda is milking the higher 2016 ratings as long as possible!

The CX-3 AWD has the same EPA fuel economy 32/27 for 2016 and 2017
The FWD loses 1 MPG Highway going to 34/29
 
In NA still waiting to hear from the first owner of a '16.5 outside of Canada with memory seats and power passenger :-) ......

I believe Mazda is planning new 2nd-gen CX-5 as 2017 MY which should be available in the US market late spring / early summer next year, much like new 2016 2nd-gen CX-9.

Yeah, the only hint of memory driver's seat in the US market is from kids_dad in California. Mazda US website doesn't say anything about memory driver's seat and 6-way power passenger's seat. But Mazda Canadian website does say 2016.5 CX-5 GT in Canada has them. Memory driver's seat does come with a price to pay - it has 6-way power driver's seat instead of our 8-way power driver's seat on GT!

That's not true, no sacrifice at all on driver seat, still 8-way (plus memory!). 2016.5 tech spec even advertises as 10-way, as usual (counting lumbar support of course), see p10:

You're right! According to Canadian Mazda website now, the driver's seat is 8-way power adjustable with memory on GT. Back to June in the same discussion, 16.5 CX-5 With Driver Seat Memory in Canada, the website seemed to indicate the memory capable driver seat is 6-way as it didn't say anything as 8-way. The new 2016 CX-9 GT and Signature has 6-way power driver seat with memory although the US website still says 8-way!

I see, so the Canadian site used to be a little vague then. Thanks! Glad they're keeping 8-way on memory seats after all (without sacrificing front tilt). BTW when I played with the memory function in a Canadian showroom, memorized seat positions are restored in three steps, with this sequence: 1) reclination, 2) forward/backward, then 3) up/down AND front tilt restored at the same time! Seems to suggest front tilt and up/down are actually commanded by same motor behind the scene (which might explain the 6- vs. 8-way confusion around driver memory seats).

Thanks for pointing out CX9 driver seats with memory, which is indeed "downgraded" to 6-way. According to spec, besides driver side, CX9 passenger power seat is also "inferior" to CX5: 4-way as opposed to 6-way on CX5 passenger. How so? Curious, besides front tilt, which other dimension would have been sacrificed. (Wouldn't be happy if i were CX9 owner's spouse, ie passenger side.)

Driver seat pan front tilt and up/down seat height have to be using separate stepper motors for simplicity of design and memorizing two different positions although it does make people think they use the same motor the way the positions been recovered by the memory.

I don't like the way Mazda sometimes did things for apparent cost savings, but ended up "penny wise, pound foolish" IMHO! Power seat adjustments on new CX-9 is a perfect example as you've pointed out! Further, in 1st-gen CX-9 the positions of both outside rearview mirrors are memorized but now they're no longer. The right outside rearview mirror will tilt down during reverse in old CX-9 but got eliminated in the new CX-9. Many new CX-9 owners are also finding out the AC is not as cold as the old CX-9 due to either smaller cooling capacity or smaller cold air volume coming out from the vents.
