38k miles on my third set of rear rotors/pads and now my front drivers inner pad locked up against the rotor and chewed it all to s***. Turns out the clips had gunked up where the pad slides and locked the pad against the rotor. Slider pins are fine..these brakes are the touchiest pieces of absolute s*** I've ever encountered.

I can understand your frustration. My calipers get the full force of the pressure washer every time I wash it and I can see all the black dust disappear when I do. I also change from summer to winter wheels and back twice a year so will be popping these pads out to have a check on them but you are right, it shouldn't be necessary.

So this is something not related to lack of grease on slide pins. And sounds like this is nothing to do with more salt on the road in Michigan winter? It seems the bad design of resisting salt and rust is the culprit of many brake issues on CX-5 and I was hoping those uncommon "maintenance" to brakes is not necessary in the South.

You'd think we'd hear more about this if it were common. Curious about who does the brake work if on the third set in 38k miles.

Although OP is on the third set of rear rotors/pads at 38K miles, but the front which is now having problem is from factory. From what we've seen here those brakes, especially the rear ones, on CX-5 really are having many problems in the North due to the road salt winter condition and lack of grease on caliper pins from factory! I imagine the OP had at least one replacement on rear at Mazda dealer with TSB, and we're not sure if the front was covered by warranty or some other TSB's, most likely not.

Those uncommon brake "maintenance" to prevent sticky pads shouldn't be necessary as Anchorman said!

Heres the chewed up rotor..

I'm now getting a tire vibration noise from this wheel, sounds like a bad wheel bearing...unbelievable.

Theres lots of rust on the rotors. Also from Michigan. Are these cars that sensitive to rust?

Yes extremely sensitive, my back end is rusting out already...I would suggest any owner of a CX-5 in a state that uses road salt to sell the vehicle while it still has some value.

I dont think it is...The brake pad was slammed against the rotor and would not budge, completely locked in from debris that gathered and mixed with whatever gunk they used at the factory..it was like cement...Considering the amount of rust I think it fits the TSB: 03-003/14 where corrosion kills the bearing ..
This is my exact problem now - http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/show...se-at-speed&highlight=cx5+front+wheel+bearing
Were you able to get front brake and bearing replaced under new car or powertrain warranty? There is a TSB, and I'd imagine you should get at least your bearing replaced under powertrain warranty?!

I did the brakes myself, and will be making an appointment tomorrow about the wheel bearing..I figured they would charge for brakes so do it myself for 1/3 the price.

So the wheel bearing was corroded and fit the TSB and replaced under the 60k powertrain warranty...
Now you would think a wheel bearing would be kept in stock within your parts department...Not at Thelen Mazda. I cant wait to find another vehicle and get rid of this nightmare CX-5...It should have gone 150k without issues instead I have over 400$ in parts and hours of time fixing a bran new vehicle + time and repairs done under warranty..

If you think a single wheel bearing is an issue, try $500/ea for subaru wheel bearings every 30k miles. I did my right rear 5x in 120K miles with only once being warranty.

what's the required tools used in replacing mazda323f front brake pad, it has a socket bolt, I want to know the bolt size, as for the back calipers I use twelve spanner to unscrew it, I just want to be enlightened about the front calipers required tools

Try asking in the protg area.. in North America 323f is the protg 5 wagon
