Yes it's possible and works 
It's been a while when I'm testing my solution for regional change, looks like whole procedure passes my quality gates and it's fully repeatable solution (always works).
For most of the time I have adapted NA units with EU software swap.
No DTC's from CMU ! Navigation works (after proper SD insert). All car functionalities available.
I've put a lot of effort and resources for low level reverse engineering.
I'm ready for selling solution or share knowledge for price that compensates my effort.
