Why no window "open-all" / "close-all" feature?

Mazda CX-5 GT 2016
I have a new 2016 CX-5 GT and am very happy with it. But I am slightly surprised that there does not seem to be a window open up / close up feature. I mean on my old VW and Honda i can walk up to the car, press and hold unlock on the keyfob and all windows go down. No need to turn on the car - just get close and press. Perhaps Mazda never ventured into this feature or they decided it was a safety risk. Although I never had any issue with it on the old cars.

Mazda probably determined 99.5% of owners don't care and would rather have the money put into something that's beneficial, like BSM.

Why window "open-all" / "close-all" feature is not available in CX-5? Because Mazda has positioned CX-5 is not a luxury CUV and decided not to offer such feature in its mid-level CX-5 for the US/NA market. CX-9 has this feature so as many other features missing in the CX-5 such as memory seat and one-touch up-and-down for all windows. Of course cost saving is a big reason too. Actually BSM is not unique to Mazda CX-5, many other competitors have similar feature.

I can't believe my cx-5 doesn't have the auto open and close on all windows driver control. Only auto driver window. My old 07 speed6 have it.

No and Yes, I install a aftermarket module from China to add this feature. So far it works very good, no noise or problem. Every time I shut off engine and leave my car press lock all window will roll up itself, if I buy the expensive one which will support both roll up and roll down with your OEM remote, add one touch to all other windows. I think you lock and unlock and lock to roll down or something, very easy to install and it is plug and play.

I wonder if the window switch from a mazda6 installed in the cx-5 would be enough to get one touch windows? it's possible mazda used all the same motors and what not just different switches.
I would also like the window control from the remote, wifes audi ('03) has it, but its a hidden feature and needs to be unlocked with the VAG-COM interface. I wonder if mazda has the feature or it could be programmed to work if you playe around with the MMI software

Damn these 1st world problems LOL!!

I remember the days of owning a car with roll down windows. Got to get out of the car, get in the back, then roll them down.

Then later...

Owning a BMW that rolled windows down electronically but could not get back up. Gotta love German electronics.

lol. I remember the time my window control handle broke off in my VW GTI with the window rolled down at a toll booth, during a rainstorm.

vice grips to the rescue!

I hear Ya. I'm glad to have electric windows, even if I have to raise/lower them one at a time.

Yeah, Mazda is good on taking some features out even if the older models have them. Older Mazda3 and Mazda6 have memory setting with power driver's seat, but it got eliminated in newer CX-5. You have to read the fine prints and don't assume the features were there in older models and they'd be inherited to the newer models. Heck when Mazda claims new 2016 CX-9 has "8-way" power driver's seat like the previous gen CX-9's, but people have find out it has "6-way" power driver's seat like CX-5 Touring is having! Mazda not only has secretly eliminated seat bottom front adjustment from new CX-9, but also is doing false advertising!

I do believe, in addition to different 2-step power window switches, you need different or additional control modules to make this one-touch up-and-down power window feature to work like hek8560 did. But there suppose to have anti-pinch feature for safety reason and this requires different motor with pressure sensor which can reverse the rotation if there's obstruction.

VAG-COM... haven't heard it for a while and we have a 2001.5 VW Passat. :)

Yes this, factory one-touch requires an anti-pinch system for liability reasons. Goes for windows and sunroof. Sunroof anti-pinch systems historically have had reliability issues as the tracks get dirtier.

Which modules are these?

Aren't CX-5's a CAN-bus system (like VW's)? If so, it should really be a zero-cost thing to do. No additional hardware is needed; just a few lines of code in the vehicle management software and key-fob logic.

I would have to disagree on that... mechanical limit switch or voltage load controller of some type needs to be on the power window motor to sense when limits are reached.
