Jag F-Pace - WOW!

2016 CX-5 AWD GT+iActive Soul Red
Priced competitively at 40k initial price. With options, etc. believe will come to around $48k. Anyways Jag is luxury, CX-5 is not. It's in a different league. I had an opportunity to drive it, thanks to someone I know, for a day. The best part was on that day had to hit Dellaware and its long and winding roads. It blew me away with it handling, poise, ultra low road noise, fantastic interior quality and the best part - exhilarating acceleration and cornering capabilities.
Jag had, has reliability issues. Keeping that aspect aside for a moment (Why? Those to do own a Jag - usually lease it for 3 years) I found the car to be simply put - fantastic to drive. If I give my CX-5 a 4, F-Pace will be solid 8 in terms of driving joy on long & winding roads. Simply put - stunned me a bit.

Absurd. The F-pace as WAY MORE than 9# of sound deadening. No way it could handle as well as you claim! It weighs 4,000#!!!!

But, yeah, like I've said all along, lol.

I think Jag has hit a home run with their upscale little CUV from everything I'm reading. To me, it looks like they took careful aim at the GLK350 and pulled the trigger and it's thrashin' in the weeds! Good on Jag! I hope it proves reliable.

To be fair, I don't think a majority of CX-5 owners would cross shop a Jag with a Mazda. Different markets.

It's all fun and games until you need a waterpump or an automatic headlight goes out.

My mom has a S-Type R that she bought new. When the auto leveling went out on her headlights, (like they ALL do), they charged her 1500 bucks a side for parts alone. 3k for a set of stock headlights on the bottom of the line Jag. Plus labor. Plus the nearest Jag dealership is in Monterey, which is 45 min from here.
I could have fixed it with a couple 25 cent screws, but that's a different rant.

The only jag I really lust after is an old E-Type with a wooden steering wheel, a V12 and a mile long hood.

Jags are for leasing. Not owning.

lol Try to tell that to my mom...or ANYthing for that matter!

She's had it since 03 and it really hasn't been that bad as far as reliability goes. 400lbs of supercharged V8 torque is fun to play around in, I cant argue with that. I'd never buy one though. Too much hassle.

I agree. You can buy 2 CX-5's for the price of the Jag, or a CX-5 and a boat and ATV, or a nice down payment on a better house...pass.

Not Jag, but similar. A friend drove someone's Beemer on Sunday and then went with me on a CX-5 test drive on Tuesday. He sincerely thought fit and finish, performance, fun factor, etc. was not that far off from the BMW. Two recent magazine reviews said the same thing. And the CX-5 leaves you a bit of pocket change. Not to mention the cost of maintenance/upkeep. My ex-gf has a BMW M series. Those service writers with white jackets and clipboards are expensive!

I disagree. I've had my Bimmer since it was born in '08. Different vehicles, different market. I'd never consider a Mazda-6 when shopping for a replacement. I must concede, Audi has the lead in interior luxury.

I enjoy driving my wife's CX5 but love driving my car. M-car is next.

Before the 08' VW Rabbit, I had a 95' XJ6 Vanden Plas and it was a joy that car. It had a super plush ride(to soft for me if you ask me) and it was fairly fast for a 4200 Lbs car.
The only problem that I had for a couple of years that I have owned it(bought it used), it was the leaky steering rack. Fixed it very cheap, cheap shop removed it/re-installed it for $70, I have found a shop, where they rebuild it for $250, plus an alignment.
A brand new steering rack from Jaguar, $1200(!!).
I love Jaguars, I may even buy one one day.

I want to reiterate this. Jag is different league and it's usually always leased. But the handling was amazing. I thought CX5 is great but this one: really terrific. I made 65 mph turn on a road which I travelled many times on CX5 and max I could push it was 45. Acceleration: like a whip lash.

...or 2 lightly used RAV 4's for the price of 1 CX-5 new...

Some people cross-shop odd stuff. I cross-shopped the 370Z and Z06 Corvette for crying out loud.

It's nice to see some honesty on this site about what the CX-5 really is. For a while, I thought it was a Ferrari that could go mudding and tow a mobile home, lol!

Just curious, but what did your friend think of the CX-5? I'm sure you let them drive it, no?

It outdoes the Ferrari because it can pass the repair shop

I am totally in love with the F-type right now and regularly have a youtube video of the car driving/reving in the background tab while messing on the computer. Droooooollllllllllll......................

I actually think there are parts of the F-pace that look a bit like the CX-5, at lease from the early press shots when it was announced. I showed my wife and she really liked it as well. But I about choked on the $30k of my GT, so $40k would have me gasping. Maybe a lease if I ever get a job closer to home. I'll do 30,000 on my new car this year. That would kill me in a lease.

That said, I was planning to buy a new GMC Canyon before I got the mazda.

Audi has the lead in interior luxury. .

I can never get past family and co-worker AT failures and repairs costs associated with Audi's...

I guess i am too caught up in reliability and obtaining full value from my vehicle purchase. :-) I do understand people purchase vehicles for different reasons though and many don't keep beyond a warranty.

Audi loses STOOPID value. I mean, you can buy an S-line Audi for less than you can find a clean Mustang GT of the same year for, in the mid/early 2000's! Go look up their MSRPs! Insane!
