Hey everyone,

My time to purchase a CX-5 is coming up soon because I have done way too much research and I really cannot find much I do not like about it. One thing I would like to receive some feedback on though would be the interior console and gauges. From my research, I have noticed a few things have changed over the years in concerns with these. I am limiting myself to 2014-2016 as my choice will be a 2.5L/Auto

Gauges:
2016 - Looks like the gauges were simplified, an Odometer now sits below the speedometer and the outer display now has an analog meter for gas and is the display is smaller and red?
2014-2015 - White lighted gauges with a large display for information. I think I like this style better as the gauges look nicer it seems.

Console:
2016 - Addition of electronic parking brake, sport mode switch, movement of power socket, simplified smaller radio control / seperate volume knob, smaller arm rest and moved cup holders, extended "side bolsters" for pocket
2015 - Normal parking brake, lower power socket, normal cup holders, (if navi equipped) moved cup holders, knob control, smaller armrest because of cup holders
2014 - Normal parking brake, lower power socket, normal cup holders.

I also noticed changes with the A/C controls and overall fill of the interior. I am looking for some comparison shots, insights, comfort comparison if anyone has any.

Thoughts anyone?

I was in the same boat as you. I have a 16.5 sport which comes with back up camera, HD/Pandora radio, and there are still no rear cup holders(believe you have to get touring to get these). I didn't want any electronic "safety" features for the car. If you can find a touring with low miles(under 15k miles) under $20k, I would say go for it. If not, just buy a new one because they are basically the same price and it is cheaper and easier to finance for a new car as oppose to used.

I am assuming you mean the cup holders that are in the fold down arm rest in the back? I would definitely want that. I figured I am pretty much allocated to a Touring or better. Back up camera and anything related to the audio video system I am not concerned with (8+ years being a professional installer) as any factory crap will get the boot pretty quickly. I am not crazy on the electronic parking brake but it seems the way of the world is going that way and I would assume there is slightly more room for the driver seat??????!?????

My 16 GT with Teck and Isense has a much more functional dash than my 13 GT had. The 13 was mostly fixed gages with a small info display window, the 16 has a much larger computer window that changes. Example, the doors show up individually when open in a graphic where the 13 just indicated a door open. The 16 radar cruse always indicates the speed it is set to and the info window is replaced by messages when appropriate such as drifting out of lane without turn signal, too close to car ahead for speed and various error messages like the windshield is too fogged over for the optical sensors to work etc.

I went with 2016 mostly because the old infotainment system got many bad reviews, whereas the new one got praises. I haven't seen the old one, but the new one is really good, especially there're hacks to make it better.

Please also remember that Sport trim doesn't have 4/2/4 split for rear seat, and the rear seat doesn't move forward to fold flat, only Touring and GT trims have that.

I wish the clock was in the center like in the 2015 and -. It's now on the radio which sucks if I ever change head units

The Automatic Shifter, and the Mirror / Turn signal lights changed from the 2014 to the 2014.5 models.

The shifter changed from one with a plastic gate / shield shrouded shifter, to one with a Vinyl boot / dust protector.

The mirror turn signal style was improved to a larger and easier to see external turn signal indicator.

Most headunits have a nice clock display. My Pioneer does.

Actually, instrument backlighting was red prior to the 2016 model. The 2016 model year is backlit white.

FWIW, here is a picture of my 2014 GT gauges. You'll note too that I added a clock up on the dash. It's a custom holder made by a guy on this forum; I bought the clock part separately. Original clock too low to be of much use to me.

Also, somebody correct me if I am wrong, I don't think that the 2015 console had any type of navi controller on it. Pretty sure it was the same console for 2013-2015. The new style (on the 2016's) was on vehicles sold pretty much throughout 2015, but that was due to the fact that the 2016 model was introduced early in 2015.

minnesotaart's posts shows white gauges and a white LED info display on his 2014 so that is a bit confusing.

This according to Google is a 2013. It has the knob setup which is with what I assume factory Nav?

This is a 2016 with the new setup

Obviously I don't have ISense but my '15 GT shows the individual doors and and the set speed. There is a message area too. Must be changes after '13 or '14?

Yes, I stand corrected. At any rate, I have a 2016 with white backlighting.

The knob setup on the '13-'15 wasn't available in the US. It was utilized on units in other markets outside of NA.

Do you have the tech package? That advanced info display came with that. I have a GT but no tech, and so it has the simpler version.

The manual has instruction pages for both.

I'm not positive about the 16 changes, however they seem fairly minor in the gauge cluster. For 13-15 (at least) there were two types of info displays. The more advanced version came with the tech package and shows more information with graphics. The simpler version is basically a typical LED matrix with a handful of items you can scroll through.

Gauges have always been backlit in white.

All 2016 CX-5's have the new infotainment and the commander knob (including the Sport version, I think?). 13-15 varied a lot in this regard. Many Sport models did not have infotainment, using a simple cd/radio setup. Touring and GT had it. CX-5's *outside the US* often came with a commander knob, which is why you see it in some pictures. In the US they put in a second cupholder there.

The climate control was changed for '16. Some builds have automatic climate control, 13-15 were backlit in red, 16 is in white.

A clue that this is not a US model is the speedometer in KM, not MPH.

Also, my 2014 GT (with Tech) shows the set speed when the cruise is engaged. Also, the "door open" diagram shows the individual doors.

Hope that helps.

The main reason I went with a 2016 was the redesigned center stack. I prefer the dashboard display that comes with the tech package too.

I saw to that some of the new systems have a CD player in the front console pocket area and some are up higher at the radio.
