Lower control arm failure (recall) affecting the tie rods

i am quite sure if anyone takes their mazda to the dealer they will at the least inspect the tie rods for issues.

if there are issues they will replace them.

my dealer is well aware of the known warranty issues. they told me they were going to inspect the tie rods at my last oil change. they said if they needed replaced they would replace them. if they didn't they would get to it later.

put it this way: parts exist, they are just limited. they are only repairing tie rods with issues at this point. they will replace otherwise perfectly fine tie rods later when the parts exist for that.

even the receptionist i talked to this morning to schedule the replacement of my transfer case knew exactly what i meant; even before i said it was a cx-9.

don't get hung up on letters; if you are worried get it inspected. if it needs replaced they will likely have the parts or will give you a loaner (if they are a decent dealership).

you might try calling around to different dealerships. some are probably more interested in warranty work than others.

They will not replace the tie rods for free just the lower control arms and ball joints that is written with the recall. The tie rods are not mentioned in the recall. At least this was my experience.

I was told by our local dealer that they're replacing LCAs whether they show signs of damage or not. Haven't received a letter yet, but our dealer is aware of the TSB and inspected them before we bought our 2012 a few weeks ago.

Yes, Mazda usa seem to confirm that....called them few days ago. They are saying that we should wait for a letter since they are out of parts. Than again...you never know how much of it is true...each cust. Rep usually has a different story

just enter your VIN number here and it'll tell you the exact recall status of your specific vehicle

I just checked my VIN, it can back with this:

Recall Incomplete. Remedy Not Yet Available.
Dealers will inspect the lower control arm ball joints on both sides for looseness.
If necessary, they will replace the lower control arms.

This is NOT the story I got from my dealer. I called and told them I got the letter, and what the heck is taking so long? They told me that I was *supposed* to get a 2nd letter that said I could schedule an appointment for them to inspect, and determine if I should be higher up on the list. My appointment is next week.

Thanks for the link! Our VIN is in the same boat as yours. I'm not worried since the dealer inspected the LCAs to make it CPO. I'll just wait for my letter and give them a call. Hopefully they'll have enough parts by then, as I'm sure they've been told to prioritize CX-9s that have become safety issues.

You've got the same year/model/colors as we do :) Ours is CPO, so the clearing of any recalls, and thus the inspection of the LCAs, was part of the certification process. I still have to wait for the letter & parts before they'll replace them. Nevertheless, I was told that the LCAs will be replaced no matter their condition. I'm just glad to know they've been inspected and deemed safe, as I'm sure there are CX-9s out here that probably need replacements sooner rather than later, so dealers are prioritizing replacements.

I too have a CPO 2012 GT that I recently purchased. I went online to check to see if my car has had the recall replacement done. The site generated a weird error and recommended that I call Mazda directly. When I called Mazda, the representative confirmed that my car is a part of the recall but that it is in the Phase 2 group of the recall rollout, which has not begun yet.

However, she then asked me if I wanted her to go ahead and ship the parts to the local dealer of my choice to initiate the replacement process for my vehicle. I of course said yes and she said the dealer will contact me when the parts arrive to schedule the replacement.

Long story shortened, even though she said Phase 2 has not begun yet, it appears as though I will be getting my done and out of the way sooner than later.
