2007 Mazda 3 replacement engine advice please

Hi,

I'm a complete newbie to the forum, and would really appreciate some advice from Mazda experts please.

I need a new engine for my Mazda 3, 2007, manual 6 speed, petrol 2.0. I've already got the wrong engine once (despite giving the breakers the reg. number) and am completely confused as to how to find the right engine. My mechanic says it needs to have VVT, and an electronic throttle, and one breaker has assured me that a Mazda 6 engine will be fine, but the part went before I could investigate further. Finding any Mazda 3 engine has been hard enough, so if I can widen the search to a Mazda 6 too, that would be great... but not if that was duff advice.

I know my engine code was LF024996. What engines can I search for? My mechanic suggested a Ford engine would be OK, but my internet searches haven't given me any clue what Ford engine... or confirmed if a Mazda 6 engine could be a match.

Any advice to save me making an expensive mistake, and to get me back on the road will be very, very much appreciated!

Thanks to anyone who can help, or point me to somewhere that could.

Joanne

Have you tried talking with your dealership's parts department person?

Thanks, I had assumed they would only deal with new models that they currently sell, but I've nothing to lose. I'll give it a try!

I doubt any Ford engine would be an easy swap. While Ford built engines to Mazda's MZR design, there are many detail differences and I would be surprised if one would be a straight bolt-in and plug-in replacement for the other... but I could easily be wrong. A Mazda6 engine seems a more likely candidate to me.

Dealerships service anything for which they have manuals, and sell any parts that are still available. Manufacturers supply parts for at least a decade (and more often two) after the cars are built, regardless of what may have changed since.

On the other hand, if you ask them the price a complete new engine, be prepared to be shocked. For swap compatibility information, I wouldn't expect much from the dealership - they mostly swap parts with exact replacements, not necessarily understanding much, or in some cases even caring much about understanding.
