Next major update to the Navi Radio Media Phone?

I'll let you know the outcome ASAP. Honestly I thought they were trying to keep me from complaining further about the USB/bluetooth issue, but they are allegedly taking care of that. I'll keep you posted. I cannot see them installing a mirror on yours that doesn't match the other side.
I just got back from the dealership on this mirror TSB. They only ordered a replacement DRIVER's side mirror. They told me that they should be cosmetically the same as the original. I tried to protest, show pictures, etc - but they wouldn't budge. At this point, I think my best bet is to just wait for the replacement mirror to show up, and if it's cosmetically different, to say "I told you so" and make them call Mazda for guidance.

They were nice enough to let me read the TSB (but not let me take it out), and it doesn't say to replace BOTH mirrors. In fact, the part list for the TSB _only_ shows the driver side mirror assembly. We'll see...

Take care

Take a look at page 5 of the EU TSB Seminole linked above. If the replacement assembly is the same as that one, then the differences might be somewhat minor. In that case, I'll let my wife judge. She's the authority in Cosmetic Anal Retentiveness.

On the other hand, if the new mirror assembly is like the 2015 mirror and/or is very visibly different, I can assure you that I won't accept the "repair" as complete unless both sides are replaced.

On a side note, I find it interesting that Mazda issued this repair bulletin in the EU over a year ago, but Mazda America kept insisting everything was fine with the mirrors until very recently. Seems like something similar to the head unit and ipod support, and who knows how many other things? Mazda should be careful with this... Those EU bulletins demonstrate that Mazda is refusing the fix problems that they know about. Just the public relations of that could be bad for Mazda... it just smells too much like GM's ignition switches that they knew to have problems, but refused to fix. (No, it's not the same as the GM stuff: I don't think anyone has died because of a vibrating mirror... however, the "court of public opinion" tends to make very loose associations.)

Gary

Edit: re-reading the entire EU TSB, it seems that BOTH sides are repaired there. I wonder why it would be limited to only one side here in the US. I might need to call Mazda this evening...

Does anyone have access to the ENTIRE TSB for "09-026/14"? It's something like 14 pages long, and I'd like to re-read it when I have more time to validate that only specifies replacing ONE mirror.

Anyone know when next major update to the WONKY Navi Radio Media Phone will be out?

I hear that the next will be a total redo?
Yeah, I guess I am guilty of yanking it off topic.. so I'll directly answer the OP questions:

You're in the US, and no one seems to know for sure when the next update will be. If you are referring to the head unit issues with iPods, etc - then it's supposedly going to be near the end of summer.. or the fall... or perhaps in the winter. (That's about as specific as Mazda is willing to be.) If you're referring to the tomtom navi software only, I'm not sure there will actually be any more non-minor updates to the software.

I seriously doubt there will be a "total redo" of anything. Here in the US, we can get a good idea of what is potentially coming by chatting with our members in Europe and Asia. They have an update that corrects some of the iPod problems, and it MAY impact some of the bluetooth phone issues (for better or for worse), but that's all that I've seen reported. That's actually not a radio firmware update, but a bluetooth module update (meaning it will only impact issues with the USB and Bluetooth.)

Take care

Thanks, I read on another forum, don't ask me which one, I can barely keep up with work, but they said as a result to a petition on Change.org, Mazda comments on a total fix by fall of this year. I hope they come through, As for me, I love the SUV, great in all terms BUT the Audio PURELY SUCKS and is an abomination to a consumer buying the car.

Hello all,

I took my 2014 CX-5 GT in for 15,000 mile today. I had a few issues I wanted addressed.

1. The USB port using a USB stick always starting from the first track (or as Mazda says "working as anticipated")
2. The bluetooth module "eating" my third USB drive. Yes. Today, believe it or not, it killed my third drive. Typically, it starts losing information (artist, album, title), then either isn't recognized or comes up "USB Error" and greys out the USB tab.
3. The driver side mirror vibrates at highway speeds.

The service manager is the same dick from the last time. He knows nothing about any complaints, yada, yada. I went and talked to the closest thing they have to a techie guy. He's in agreement with me about everything - apparently the '16 CX-5 will have Mazda connect rather than what we have. I showed him this thread and many others, including the petition. He gets on the horn with Mazda USA.

They are replacing my bluetooth module. Whether it is an upgrade or not, or what we have been waiting for is TBD. They said it has a software upgrade or update. I will let you know the outcome, but apparently there is a TSB (tech service bulletin) related to the bluetooth module, but more specifically regarding the "icons" disappearing. If that is the defect, they replace immediately, if not, your case has to be proved. Mine was. USB drive dead. Right until I left the dealer, at which time it started working again, albeit from track one.

They are replacing both my side mirrors. There is a TSB on this as well. The fix is in the '15 mirrors, which are visibly different. But they can't just replace one, since they look different.

So, in about 1.5 - 2 weeks, I should be able to provide the outcome. I will let you know, and my fingers are crossed, but my level of hope is not very high.

Just took my suv in Alberta, Canada for the mirror vibration issue on a 2014. They said they are ordering the one mirror and reinforcement bar/parts for inside the door. They didn't say anything about it being a 2015 CX-5 mirror??? I will post back when the mirror comes in 7-10 days. Sorry for the off topic post once again in this thread.

Just got back from the dealer. They called today to let me know my replacement bluetooth module was in. It has been installed, and amounts to nothing more than a "software update". Shut off the car and restart, USB drive starts back at the first track.

The dealer did their part, but the issue is with Mazda and Johnson Controls.

BTW, one can access diagnostic mode on the head unit by pressing the power button and scan fwd at the same time. Enter a code of 38 and you get the software version. That's all I know thus far.

Mirrors are still a week or two out.

On the off-topic mirrors: I got a call from my dealer today that my replacement mirror came in. I'll be going Monday morning for them to replace it. Will keep this thread updated when it's done. (Hopefully with pics)

Update: Had the service done for that mirror TSB. The "new" mirror assembly is re-using the cover from the old mirror, and I have to be honest that I can't tell the difference between the new and old assembly. If they are a different shape, I can't see it. In fact, I'm not 100% convinced that the guy didn't just put the old mirror assembly back on. The "new" assembly doesn't smooth out the indents seen on the old one (as the EU TSB shows), etc. I'm curious how this TSB works out for others...

Did it take care of your vibration at all? I just brought my car to the dealer for the new TSB and they are saying that the first time I had the mirror replaced last year under the older TSB it was the same repair procedure outlined in the new TSB so they couldn't redo it. I checked both old and new TSB and the part number for the replacement mirror is the same, so I guess I'm out of options at this point, short of ordering some 2015 mirror and putting them on myself. My only worry, is according to the new TSB, they also changed the mountings from one where it's secured with 3 nuts to one where it has 3 bolts. I don't know if the 2015 are the newer style (mine uses the nuts) and if they are completely interchangeable or not. It sucks because I love this car aside from the mirror issue.

JC eliminated its electronics and interiors division - I don't think they'll be fixing the unit. If there is a 'total fix', my uneducated guess would be a replacement program that puts in the Mazda Connect that's presently in the 3, and whatever its variant is in the 2016 CX-5, perhaps at a substantial discount. That's what I would do if I ran the place...

Got the new driver side mirror for my car. Had them replace the mirror cover at the same time as mine had been scratched in a parking lot.... but good news is that mirror looks identical and vibration is gone at the high speeds i've test at so far 100km/h.

highway speeds over 100km and vibration is just as bad as it was before.... whats the point of a TSB if it doesn't fix anything.
