CX-9
Hi everyone,
I need some help with the CX-9. I had one back in 2007 but got rid of it because I was having issues with it. Now we are going to get another one in June. We are military currently stationed in Germany so I can't go get in a CX-9 to figure out what I need. I am hoping that someone on here will help me out.

I need the measurements for the cargo area with the 3rd row seats down.
Does anyone know when the 2015 CX-9 comes out? And what changes might be coming with it? Can't find it anywhere.

I am currently looking at the GT because of some of the advanced features in it. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to get/ not get? What you wished you had or don't use at all? We plan to step off the plane and into our new CX-9 so having this info now will help with our selection. I have seen a lot of good info on other year models but not much on the '13-14 model.

Thank you!

2015 will not be a FMC. Not even a MMC.
Just minor change expected.
FMC is expected around 2016/2017.
MAZDA will roll out Mazda5, MX-5, then, CX-9.

The one thing to seriously consider is AWD or FWD. AWD is much better in snow and bad conditions but has a lot of maintenance issues (at least in past years) Many people have to replace their transfer case somewhat regularly.
The USA website states:
[TABLE="class: veh_specs double, width: 975"]
<tbody style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; vertical-align: baseline; outline: 0px; font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-family: inherit; z-index: 10;">[TR]

Not sure what other measurements you need? Length width??

I have the Touring, with no options. Not much else I'd rather have IMO. Sure the HID's and power lift gate are pretty nice to have but to me not terribly necessary. The HID's do make the car look better IMO.

I am looking for the length and width of the cargo area. We will be picking up a large, heavy object to transport from PA to TX. I am trying to figure out how we might get it in the back, centered in the back or rent a trailer to haul it.

I currently have a Nissan Rogue with AWD and haven't had any issues in the snow here. So, I am considering AWD again. Also I read that AWD has better towing capacity than the FWD. I love the keyless entry and the memory seat positions is a big plus since we will have three different drivers once we get to TX and get our 15 yr old son a learners permit. We will learn to live with everything else.

I greatly appreciate any help I can get at this point. It's hard to research a vehicle when you can't get in it to test it.

Thanks!

So this is what I measured today
31 1/2 in h
47 in w
length is a bit more complex as the seat slopes and the door frame is curved
At it's shortest using the top of the seat as a measurement I got 37 inches (this would be on the sides)
In the middle it's 43 inches long again from the top of the seat.

These are all rough measurements. I was a bit rushed when I measured them so I didn't get it down to the 10th of an inch or so. Let me know if you need more accuracy or if this is enough.

Cargo Area Dimensions
Cargo Area Width @ Beltline (in)58.5
Cargo Volume to Seat 3 (ft³)17.2
Cargo Area Length @ Floor to Seat 2 (in)48.9
Cargo Volume to Seat 1 (ft³)100.7
Cargo Box Width @ Wheelhousings (in)46.1
Cargo Area Length @ Floor to Seat 3 (in)19.0
Cargo Volume to Seat 2 (ft³)48.3
Cargo Area Length @ Floor to Seat 1 (in)- TBD -
Cargo Box (Area) Height (in)34.8

Thank you, Jlanger. The object that we will be putting back there is 59 X 22 X 18, so we will probably have to angle it with one of the second row seats down.

First of all, thank you for your service to the nation!! Secondly, see this link which will help you get a handle on the general capability of the cargo section. Be ready for a surprise. BTW, I retired from Augsburg in 1981. http://www.tflcar.com/2013/02/2013-... should be interesting. Thanks for the info!

Not sure how those measurements were taken, but the 2nd row of seats can be slid forward to make more cargo space. They are also a 60/40 split, so the driver's side 2nd row seat folds with the middle 2nd row seat. The passenger side can be folded by itself.

DOH!

My measurements were with the seats all the way back, I'll go back redo the measurements. Didn't even cross my mind.

Haha, I wasn't criticizing your measurements, just letting him know there might be some additional space if it was close.

Yeah, moving the 2nd row seats too far forward won't work too good. Our 15 yr old son will be back there and he is already about a head taller than me, so he will need the leg room. I am thinking we will keep the 60 up for him and angle the safe towards the 40 side. I want to make sure the weight is distributed as evenly as possible for the trip.

Thanks for the help!
