NEMOC Random BS Thread

But the car is paid for I assume. Insurance is cheaper than new. You seem to have no other issues?
Well, I have a CEL that I need to take care of. Something to do with emissions, might be a recall for it, just haven't had time to take it in.

Interesting. How long have you had the cel?

Finished up wiring the tow lights. Now when I tow Mia I don't have to install and remove the extra light wiring. Uses the existing Miata lights.

Jacked up the MS6 over the weekend and changed out all the gear fluids and swapped on the snow tires. Transmission down a quart (out of 3) leaking from shifter input shaft. Transfer case down 1/2 a quart (out of about 1.5) leaking from seal. Rear diff down a little too leaking from the driver's side axle boot. That's after 35,000 miles since the last time I did them. I also noticed a little oil around the top of the engine. I guess nothing is bad enough that I have to rush and fix it...but the smell is getting to me. I found instructions on how to fix the transmission leak but the other two leaks seem like a bigger job and I have to decide whether I want to spend a weekend cursing at the car or just pay to fix it. Or leave it be and top them off until I can trade it in.

This was also the last season for my Pirelli Pzeros so in the spring I'll have to drop cash on summer rubber. Al in I'm looking at about $3k worth of work on an $8k car and that doesn't include the rust that's beginning to form.
sucks when the cars get to this point and start showing their age...

cant wait for there to possibly be a cleaning meet there! :)

i think its time to pull the miata from the road. i know my heater core leak is still going and the inside of the car doesnt smell great when i drive it. so i may flush the coolant and then blow air through the current core just to get it all out of there. ill order up a new one soon and prob make that my first thing on the to do list, along with replacing a few motor seals.

Looks great Mark, when are you hoping to get in?

Leaking coolant really smells.

Waiting on a set of rear seat brackets that will hopefully, along with some other driver seat changes I've done, will allow me to wear a helmet with the top up.

Running into a cold spell here, 50 this morning, was 45 when I first got up, but should warm up tomorrow. Have a day trip planned Friday to drive down to Brownsville TX to look at a RV park to stay at next winter. About a 3 hour drive from here. Will be nice to drive the Miata for a longer trip.

maybe end of feb, first of mar...once we get inside there is a lot of finish work to do and because we're doing most of it ourselves it will be nights and weekends, so a little longer than we would want. we reupped at the apartment for another 4 months

Wow that must seem like awhile. Getting tired of the apartment?

Good deal Mahk, seems like you should have some good moving weather when the house is finished.

LCAs were dropped at my door this morning. Guess what I'm doing tomorrow, just hope the weather holds up and it's nice and warms up a little. Found out this week why my impact wrench wasn't working. It requires 5.2 SCFM @ 90psi but the compressor I got pushes out 2.6 @ 90. :( The wife and bro-in-law only looked at the PSI specs of each and figured I'd be good to go. Now I'm trying to find a decent compressor that will give me the power I need but not cost in excess of $400. Sprayed the bolts down again over lunch with PB Blaster so hopefully I can break them free with hand tools. If not, the guys at work are letting me borrow a bigger compressor should I need it. :)

And thoughts on this one? http://allentown.craigslist.org/cto/4186791838.html It's in town so I could check it out easily for rust, etc. Maybe I can get it for $1000 with the oil leak and for another ~$1000 down the road swap the engine out and have a nice ride for $2k?

I'm with Mark on this. Get something that doesn't need an engine swap.

had a nice run from Port Aransas to South Padre Island and back. 410 miles round trip at 75 mph.

I too had one last run in the Miata last weekend. Was a nice day for a quick drive. Been 3 weeks since I last drove her.
