I search the forums for something familiar first and didnt see anything.

I am really not good at explaining things sometimes so I just made a video.
When spooling down it stutters but I can still hear the pssst sound of the BOV.
The car also boosts funny, its strong then ... bla... then strong and so on.

My pal said the Waste gate is going bad, but not all the way dead.
Figured since I just got this car and I'm really having fun with it Id join up with the forums on the internet.

Thanks for any help.

P.S. if its suppose to do that sorry for the trouble, like I said I spent a week getting it to pass inspection and get the check engine lights to go off and that's about how long ive had it.

sounds like compressor surge aka "turkey" . what kind of bov do u have? or are u on the stock by-pass valve?

Stock.

I tried the one from my FlyinMiata kit , hooks up the same and its the same sound.

EDIT: and it does sound like a turkey

So to say that sound is somewhat normal and has nothing to do with the stutter in power also? No issues with the Wastegate or perhaps a crack in that crappy plastic pipe?

I got so many questions. The body of this car is so clean , the previous owner took care of that but really did a number on the motor. Well that's what I wanted ... A project :)

That is not compressor surge. You have a CAI or SRI. The sound is simply the normal flutter. It does not mean your BPV is bad or your WG or WGA. Your uneven boost delivery can be caused by many things. Here's my suggestions. Don't go replacing things until your or someone who knows what they are doing has tested them and found them to truely be in need of replacement. There are plenty of MSP owners in Texas that know what they are doing. Find one and have them look at your car.

Sounds like normal turkey from the stock BPV. Upgrade your IC and piping and you can get an aftermarket BOV that won't have the turkey sound.

That's what I think I will do, but this weekend I read about known issues with that plastic IC pipe cracking, and I have to look again but I think I'm missing two bolts on the exhaust manifold. I also need to check where my oil leak is coming from. My belts on the alternator and I think my AC comp has got oil all over it. The weekend will show all! Any NW Houston Mazdaspeed Protg drivers out there can help me take a look someday? Ill buy food!
Thanks hornsfan10609, BTW your car looks just like mine! for being 10 years old it sure is still a very pretty car.

you should hit up Sam from cross over auto. or head out to his shop. not sure how far he is from u. but he should def also lead u in the right direction of what your goals are for this car.

Sam is a great resource but he is in the DFW area. I would check it out if I was closer to you. Oil on the belts is likely a VC gasket leak.

Ill check that to. Front side is nice and dry. Very helpful so far being on this website

Post some pics, oil leaks are common from the VC, upper/lower oil pan seal, crank and rear main seal, or cam seals. Oil seeping and caking up on the outside of the turbo is relatively normal.

Ill take pics, it leaks pretty bad.

The bracket that holds that cam seal was loose. I could hand loosen it! I fixed that, cleaned up the bay and now the oil I see leaking is from the oil pan. Its leaking directly off of three bolts. There is thick orange seal everywhere like someone dumped it all over.

Ill change that this weekend if I dont go to renfest. Any tips on sealing an oil pan?

Oil pan is straightforward, you can only reseal the bottom pan the upper can't be removed without pulling the trans. Just use good quality silicone.

I have a barely used upper corks port intercooler pipe. That is if your still using a smic (side Mount intercooler). I upgraded to an ETS sidemount intercooler and it came with hard pipes when I bought it. I'm still using the bottom (cold pipe) so I can't sell you that one yet. Let me know.
