Dash Cam thread

I think I am going to get DR32 dashcam. Looks like price/performance ratio should suit my needs.

what's the point of dash cams, really? Seems like a lot of upkeep having to pull that off and store it pretty often.

why should anyone take the time to answer your question when you dont even take 5 seconds to look up the basic functionality of all dash cams?
ill give you a hint: your assumption is wrong.

You can post funny stuff on utube w/out doing anything. Wait.... it ain't the main purpose, or is it???

having a bad day or something?

What is the thought process behind installing one of these? Just a layer of protection in case of accidents or trouble with police? Other uses?

This person asked basically the same thing and was not met with such hostility.

A lot of them keep recording in cycles, and simply start overwriting the card again when it's full. So the idea is that you just keep recording, mostly in case you get in an accident, you might have evidence on the camera that proves it's not your fault. Or that it is, I suppose too!

Any of here worth a punt?

What do we think to this? Seems smart...

I came across a smartarse bicyclist sporting a camera a couple of weeks ago. The lorry pulling out of the farmyard stopped to wave me on and blocked his side of the road, but loopy man-in-tights coming the other way never had a thought I might be approaching and set about passing the nose of the lorry. When he saw me, he had a choice of riding into me or falling off. He chose the latter and ended up sprawling in the muck with his bike on top of him.

I bet that footage never sees the light of day...

I got a $30 HD camera from Aliexpress. Battery life is relatively short (hit and miss) but quality is good and if it breaks I won't be mad. I've stuck it on the outside of my car a few times and it worked great. I also bought an endoscope from there recently, haven't used it yet though.

I have the mini 0801. Love it. Caught some funny s*** happening and also caught people cutting me off and almost hitting me if I didn't brake like crazy.
I bought mine from Alibaba, but the EPrance seller on Amazon is very reputable, and there's a great forum for the mini 0801 on dashcamtalk.com
https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned)

The firmware has been updated A LOT since it came out and it's very good now.

Here's my YouTube videos of things I've captured: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeXvTDEDFDcSck_VhRvCGARzeZgeueiXq
The first 4 videos was a different dashcam and I had it placed differently so that's why the video has the big black windshield sensor cover on the screen.
The last 3 is with the new mini 0801, not sure if those ones I have a Polarizing filter though.

Just got GPS version from 3bay. Currently doing non-stop test recording at home. I'll mount it if no problems occur in a few days or so.

I'll look into hardwiring it to 12v and using 12v->5v DC/DC converter.

Review

If this works as reported, I'm sure it will prove $98 worth.

Nice. Make sure you upgrade to latest firmware: http://forum.dashcamtalk.com/threads/official-mini-0801-firmware-20140308.4843/
It's also modable, a person on the forum made an easy program so you can change the boot up/shutdown screen, I changed it to a Mazda logo :)
I hardwired mine, used the cable it came with spliced it inside the dash behind the front 12v jack. then routed the wires through the right passenger side, then up the A pillar then down through the center sensor/rear view mirror area.

Did you use 12v->5v converter, or just supplied adapter?

I have the imbedded rearview dash camera and it seems to work OK. A couple of times I have deleted the files as it came up with a card error. I picked it as it is almost invisible and unless you point it out no one will break into the car to get it and it gives me the option to tell people I have it if it is not my fault or not tell if it incriminates me...
