The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

And it was from me? Oh my... That's a whole new meaning to "Protege love"... (kiss)

What are your guys thoughts on the current generation Mazda6 with the 3.7? I drove the four banger six-speed version and liked it well enough but the four banger was struggling in that big of a car.

My wife has a 2010 6s Grand Touring and it has been a great car for us. It has about 48k miles now and has only had oil changes, windshield wipers and front brake pads (which I did way too early because there was a lot of meat left). The torque is amazing for daily driving, you will rarely use more than 1/4 throttle in any kind of traffic because every one else is so slow. When you step on the gas, it moves. You will get used to feathering in the gas when it is wet out. The Michelins that come on the 18 inch wheels are crap in the snow so plan on using winter tires if you get a GT. The suspension is a little stiff and is my biggest complaint about the car because it seems unnecessary for what the car is. But that is a Mazda thing, and the car actually does handle well. The back seat is huge which makes it very comfortable to sit in for even longer trips (or lie down on for the ride home from a brewery). The trunk is very big as well and the opening is big enough to make it easy to load things into. For gas mileage, we are getting around 24-25 mpg mixed driving, so if you are looking for a gas sipper, it will not be the right car for you. It does use 87 though, which makes it a little better. For us, the power and the ability to merge and pass with ease makes the mediocre gas mileage worth it.
The navigation has issues finding points of interest, but if you look up the address on your phone then type it in, the nav works well. The auto-dimming interior AND exterior rear mirrors are nice since most cars only do the interior. I love the keyless entry (just put your hand in the handle with the key on you) and push start so you never have to take the key out of your pocket. The auto-adjusting seats are another huge plus. My wife and I have very different seating positions and the presets allow the seat to adjust to whichever key we are using when the door is unlocked. These don't sound important, but when you get used to them and then go back to another car it makes the other car annoying.

Thanks for the reply. I will probably shy away from navigation as I had it in that test car I had and wasn't a fan of it. I would probably try to go with a GT as I am not a fan of the cloth. ( Although I'd settle if I liked the car enough.)

Have you taken it on any long highway jaunts? What kind of MPGs were you getting? My commute is mostly highway and the mileage would be important to me.

I don't remember exactly what the mileage on the highway is, but it isn't much higher than the mixed. Maybe 26?

well, the first night of de-modding is done. got prolly 65-75% done. Looks like it's gonna be a 2 day project. Such a boring drive home...no gauges...no suspension for corners...one of the saddest drives i've had in a while.

What are you parts are you looking for?[/QUOTE]

Right now nothing much- a guy on here was selling a blown turbo and manifold for $45 but i haven't heard back from him so, "meh" It'd be a long time before i turbo my car (especially with a blown turbo)- i'd need something to drive around in while the pro. get's worked on and while the trans/engine destroy themselves and get worked on more. Turbomatic with a transmission that slips a lot already right? Maybe not...

there was a MSP front sway bar on craigslist a couple weeks ago- never heard back from that guy. racingBeat front bar and some kind of strut tower brace (with the p5 cruise control bracket) would be nice to have. I can't really do anything power wise to my car. I did buy mazda6 brakes all the way around though.... we're going for slotege x2.

Got any fd wheels? I still want to put fd's on my pro.

How much are you taking off? All the suspension stuff I take it?

All the GTSpec cross braces and trailing arms, the Nology Hotwires, frt/rear strut tower braces, the infamous intercooler, the Perin fuel rail, switch back to stock wheels, all the gauges and pods, perhaps the short shifter and the stereo.

Man, I would hate to see the MP3 ECU go to waste. I've got my stock P5 ECU in the garage if you want to trade and you can sell the MP3 ECU and I'm sure I can find another stock P5 ECU.

Good morning all! Been awhile since I've been on and even then it wasn't for long...so what did I miss? lol

Things are getting back to normal here after Sandy hit and my biggest issue right now is with deadlines at work that are on top of me since we were closed eight days for impending weather and then for no power. Lost power for three days at home and thank God it didn't rain like they said it would or we would have been flooded.

On a good note, I was finally able to source the correct part number for a thermocouple for our gas insert. It will be on the way in a week and cost me $38 shipped....much better than the $435 the HVAC place tried to **** me for for the complete pilot assembly because quote "you have to replace the entire assembly on this model". (fu)

Side note...anyone with a truck/suv have experience with Hankook Dynapro HT RH12s? Shopping for tires for my sis-in-law and I've got it down to those, the Goodyear Assurance CS Fuel Max or the Conti CrossContact LX20s.

possible dibs on fuel rail? really depends on what I find out with mine

Saw that, not sure how I feel about that... I think it's good for the track as far as bringing money in.

That was my thought, could help with some improvments to the track.
