2001 MP3 - EVIL M Edition
Hey all,

I bought my P5 in april 2012, and little over a week later my engine ran out of oil. I was little confused but filled it back up. 3 days later, all gone! After dong some inspecting and diagnostics over the course of a week or two we determined it was my cyl 3 rings. I was in school at the time, it was my daily, I had no choice but to keep putting oil in it. I have had MX6's and MX3's in the past, I have a pretty well rounded knowledge of the KL engines. I had a garage full of parts, I figured push it as long as I can to gather everything to do this swap. so 50L of oil later (haha just guessing but quite a lot of oil) I was ready to swap.

I had 3 days to do it, in order to keep my schooling and afternoon factory job intact. Needless to say, I wasn't able to get it all going in such amount of time. Mechanically, its a breeze. Wiring, on the other hand, was not my forte, and I ran into problems. I wasn't able to look at the diagram and see whats infront of me and have it click. Now I could almost do it in my sleep.

I have started to try and write a complete "How-to" on the KLZE because out of the handful of people that have done it, no one has written a complete walk through. Justin (ihone on here) was by far the most helpful I have ever encountered. Without him, I wouldn't have been able to complete it. Skype and his background was truly what got me running.

Anyway heres some pictures of my car, before and after. I will keep updating on my progress for my build with a list.

I'll watch too. I.m not really ready to do a swap but I know it will happen some day.

Justin, I will send you what I have for the write up on "How To KLZE - Complete Edition" Perhaps you can add to it!

My "Misfire" problem ironically enough wasn't the FPR. I figured it out while driving in the middle of no where. Literally hundreds of kilometres from any civilization it was the ECU. my 22pin connector where the fuel pump wire is, needs to have tension on it or else it is not getting a strong enough signal.

I love the KLP5 and how everyone underestimates it.

I'm not claiming to know it all man, but I appreciate the consideration. the swap isn't hard at all really - just alot of stuff to "cross-over" and "make-work".

Underestimated....you nailed it.

I'm now living pretty far north, we already got 10" snow. I'm glad I never lowered this thing in Ontario. I'm driving this KL beast around, with winter tires, rarely going above 70km/h because of all the snow, and driving alongside all these jacked up trucks. Man I miss summer.

At least it will give me some time to put my boost project in the works. :)

yours is going to be finished before mine will.....and I've been working on collecting parts for the past 4-5 months....

I have a problem with being focused on one thing until its finished (for the most part) and after its all done i'm bored and need to do something else.

Also being single with no kids tends to help speed things up. Only bills I have are the ones I create.

yeah......being a dad and husband comes first for me - this car can burn down for all I care - still got them, ya know?

Good luck up there in the frozen tundra...we're still wearing shorts and tanks down here! (cabpatch)

Im jealous, I'm working at a Toyota Dealership, sitting in a 2013 Venza today it said 6degrees F. Not sure what that means to you, but it was about 15 degrees Celsius warmer today, than it has been.

6* F is how we measure it down here - that's plenty cold....you can keep it.

15*C is that metric stuff.......America uses it's own standard - f everyone elses' standards....even if they do match across the globe.

Hell yea, more typical texan redneck thinking

lol - I'm far from redneck. It's just the attitude down here....America uses it's own standard......and it seems to be the only place in the entire world that can't adopt a standard that's.....well....already used worldwide.
