What have you done to your P5 today?

Mmm, so... What sorta paint would I want to use to paint the inside of my headlamps? I'm looking to paint them black or a rather dark grey. Ill probably do this all a little later when I have a retro kit so I dont have to open the assy twice and all. That would b much appreciated :)

Probably gonna do the fluids this weekend, while I've got tye oil out, I'll check the gaskets and all. I dont really wanna take too much apart but I cam assume getting to the piston rings would be laborious?

Anything high temp will do. Just lightly sand the bezels and spray on. Mine has held up great the last 3 or so years.

personally i have been using a krylon BBQ paint with no issues.

Others have used standard spray paint, but i havn't heard how it holds up

And i'm 5 years going on the krylon in the wife's car

i just used krylon fusion (for plastics) and it has held up great on my stockers and still so far very well on my retrofit

Thanks guys :) tbh, I might bite the bullet and try and do that this weekend too. Just for a little bit of a unique look, even though it'll be sitting in a garage for a while!

Belts were just replaced last year so now is the time to do the pump and I saw that 505zoom has a handful of the v3 Medieval pulleys available. With the money I'd be saving from doing it myself I could upgrade the pulley and still come out ahead. Did you do the timing belt with the water pump too? I'll be honest the timing belt swap intimidates the hell out of me. Coolant will be drained soon though as I need to replace my rad.

I did the timing belt also, that I'm not so sure I did right but I also swaped the cams too. I bet it would be 100x easier with just lining up the cam gears.

You only have to take the whole engine apart. Just do a visual check of what you can see, most likely any gasket you take off a part to look at will need replaced.

This...used satin black on mine and very happy with the results. Just wish the lenses still looked as good. lol

Yeah, that is my fear that I'll eff something up while it's apart or when putting it back together and be dead in the water....

Kk :) I figured as much. So, ill just do any gaskets. Any idea where I can source gaskets from??? Ill drain it all take it apart, and then I guess I'll leave it like that for a bit till I need to put it back together or something. Idk. Ill have my dad back this weekend so ill have a bit of a hand I think :) I already kinda got how to take the valve cover off but how do I take the clips off that hold the wires onto the VC? There's a few small holes and I guess the wires have a clip that goes in there? Not sure if that's a good enough explanation...

gaskets can come from your local dealership or order from onlinemazdaparts.com

i'd stick to OEM gaskets

Jeff, don't be skeerd to do your own timing belt. I was skeerd too but the worse that can happen is you're off a tooth or two. Just quadruple check your timing is right before reassembling and you'll be fine. It's really fun with the KL and 4 cam gears. ;)

figured as much. And I plan on servicing it to spec so I dont wanna cheap out on anything to do with the engine, that's for sure. Not to say I plan on cheaping out on anything but I wanna get plenty of miles out of the motor! And I checked on top of the spark plugs, not a drop of oil on top of them but would that be the end all search to ser if my head fasket is bad??? Or do I need to pull the spark plugs actually out of their holes? If I do, I'll wait till the weekend so I can buy a torque wrench with the measuring thingy on it. I dont want to overtorque those. Speaking of overtorquing, someone snapped the head off one of the wheel lugs... :( I noticed it a while ago but it was out of context :)

yeah jeff, i did mine with a friend in 3.5 hours and we had never done a ford motor before. just started pulling it apart and then put it back together.

4? There's only 2 cam gears, one on each head, unless you have to replace the chain drive further inboard.

My bad. I was thinking about lining up the cams in the heads after I did the head gaskets. You are correct sir. Can you tell I need to get to work on the P5? I don't even remember how many cam gears are on it anymore! haha

Had Sears come out to my house yesterday afternoon to get a quote on new windows and vinyl siding. The guy from Sears spent a good 15 minutes admiring my car, complimenting it, and asking about it lol

I still have lots of parts left on my p5, lmk if you need anything before i trash it. Also still have the complete msp turbo setup with everything including ecu! just need a fmic setup. Roof racks, bike attachments, mazda6 BBK and all is still up for sale and i just posted a mint gt2860rs with under 1000 miles in the fs forum!
