What have you done to your MSP today?

this is connected to the oil light being on, the oil levels are completely full, but the oil light from the pressure is on, all of the time now, here is a video of what the car sounds like, it's a knocking kind of.. anyone have any ideas of what it is, I am pretty much broke now so I hope it's nothing big.. but I need help on this one, I need my car to drive for work and stuff..
I am hitting the throttle as you can hear, but there is still that knocking noise at idle.

Totally rod knock. Sucks, man:(

+1 like everyone else said. Rod bearing.

I know someone else on the forum a long time ago dropped the oil pan and put in new bearings from the bottom. That might be an option. Rod bearing kits are very expensive. That is if your crank isn't scored from the damage already done. But hey less than 100 bucks for everything to attempt it seems like its worth a shot.

oh wow, that would be good, kinda better than getting the whole block forged, although I wouldn't mind that.. If I could get the money together, but yeah, I use to have the crank from my old msp, but it was a little rusty and it was laying around so I dumped it I think.. but I figure I would probably need new rod bearings if I went to forge the engine.. if the crank is shot too, I could get one from a junked msp right? maybe Just trying to figure out my options .. man that really sucks too.. it's my lucky day today.. no more g/f, computer got a huge virus, and my car is dead lol.. nice and I'm pretty much broke, (oh and I'm getting all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled tomorrow and I had a minor concussion 2 days ago..lol) unless I can fix the brake lines on these 2 old cars that I have and sell those for about $1,000 each. hopefully I can do that and get the block forged.

oh and with the rod bearing shot.. would that cause the oil light to come on? or is that caused from something else that may have caused the rod bearing to crap out?

Speedadiction20 what I would do in youur shoes is sell those two cars and just get yours fixed. No need to forge it as that adds additional down time and cost. Another option is depending on your credit is to go by your bank and see about taking out a small personal loan and pay that back over the next 1-3 years in monthly payments.

I would suggest planning on a new oil pump. I would be willing to bet that you've had a failing oil pump and it caused the rod bearings to go. Also, didn't mention just having changed the oil? Maybe you've got a failed oil filter. I had an oil filter fail on my 240sx and it took out my motor. It ruined the head and I had to rebuild the bottom end.

Do you know how often oil pumps actually fail? It's fairly uncommon.

So for those if you who haven't heard the news on fb, my car was deemed a total loss. It is fixable. So they offered me $4600. Out of which came the total pay out for what I owed($1435.08), $500 deductible, $1000 buy back price, and it left me with a paid off car with a salvaged title and $1675. I plan to use that money to buy a new dd and so I can fix the msp at my own pace. Will be trasfering the plate from the msp to the new car, and taking insurance off of it. will hopefully be going to look at/getting the new dd this Saturday.

You're able to transfer the plate without proof that the vehicle is either sold or crushed? Can't do that in Ohio. I've tried.

Nice. I tried to do that once with my Mk1 Rabbit to my Mk2 GTI. No dice. Good to hear you have a plan for it.

I had thought about parting her out and getting a down payment for a red msm or red ms6 but I can't part with her. I love her too much. Plus, I don't want another car payment.

If you were using it for a DD, I do NOT recommend an MSM. You're taller than me, aren't you? I'm about at the height limit of being comfortable in that car.

For a fun weekend car (which is what mine has become), go for it man. You'll get to experience the only Mazdaspeed car that Mazda did right.

Yeah... but what happens when a bad tune is put on a BP vs a bad tune on an FS?
