Loss of acceleration

I need help. I feel like my car isn't as 'peppy' as it once was. It started beginning this week. Acceleration used to be REAL descent with my MSP, but now it takes a while to take off. It feels like I'm revving the car while slowly disengaging the clutch, even though I'm in gear and I step on it. The RPM's go up and I hear the whistle from the CAI and the turbo spool and the car slowly accelerates. I have no CEL's, the car is totally drivable, it's just lost its aspiration so to speak. Turbo still works, my boost gauge still has the same vacuum reading (18 Hg in). Is there anything I should be checking for? I've searched the other threads, and couldn't see anything similar. Maybe I have a bad WGA??(anyone)

do the rpm's go up with speed like normal? if not it may be your clutch going.

+1 on slipping clutch, especially since you say you feel like you are revving the car when you are really just trying to speed up. The revving is the clutch slipping.

I wouldn't doubt it, I just feel like something like a slipping clutch would be gradual. This kinda felt like it happened over the weekend. If I take off without accelerating hard, it kinda drives like normal. But if I feel like 'taking off' (ie from the on ramp onto the highway) if definitely feels like I'm revving than actually picking up momentum.

It probably wasn't really noticeable until now. What you're describing sounds like the clutch

Yup, I'm 80% it's the clutch. To test, I was at a stop, I put it into 1st, disengaged the clutch like a noob, but I didn't stall out, car slowly crept like I was slowly disengaging the clutch myself. Looks like I have to buy a new clutch. What's the consensus for a car that's my daily driver, should I pick up a decent clutch off rockauto or should I be looking for a stage 2 or up clutch? (i know our engines are stock with other protege's, not sure about the tranny or clutch)

The clutch in the MSP is excellent. I think the stage 2 is for higher hp. stage 1 or oem is better suited for DD. I'd say OEM FTW. It's a good clutch

Cool, already inquiring two other members who have clutches for sale in the marketplace (OEM clutches I believe, no one has aftermarket stuff that I've seen). Good to support the community, but if those fall through, I'll go the rockauto route, pick up a new clutch. Thanks.

Hoping to get my Valeo clutch in the mail by the end of the week (part # 52253611). Is this a good replacement? Otherwise I'll look on ebay for a stage 2 or other type clutch. This is my daily driver, I like to drive hard, but I'm not doing donuts or racing on the track on weekends or anything.

Again! You're not going to want a stage 2 clutch for as little HP as your putting out.

thnx, just double checking, different places say different clutches as OEM replacements depending on whether it's turbo or not, but I think that's just gimmicks. the two clutches that fit have the inside diameter at 8 1/2" or 8 7/8". Naturally I went with the 8 7/8"

change out your spark plugs and gap them to about .28. This is before and after plug replacement. The would literally feel like it was slowing down when I went into boost.

That's crazy how much new/regapped plugs can make THAT much of a difference. Very interesting.

OP, like CleverFrog said, stage 2 clutch is beyond overkill. The OEM clutch is great, especially if you don't plan on putting a lot of extra mods on your car.

definitely not spark plug related, I changed them and properly gapped them anyway back in May

How often do you replace yours?
I don't have too many mods and don't have a SSAF so I just buy the copper plugs and replace them every oil change. It's only about $5-6.
