Here's news about the B-spec program...I'm not sure how the cars will do against the traditional SSC/SSB cars, but if the fields start filling up with B-spec cars, a class of their own won't be far behind.

This class is heating up and by 2014, it will be as hot as Spec Miata, me thinks. I just hope that the SCCA folk keep the costs done with their rule-set.

Really excited about this as well. Ill be buying some lightweight (but cheap) wheels and some star specs for autocrossing. When the car is about to be paid off I may very well turn this car into one of those beasts...but probably with a little more engine work.

i have to say theres something alot more fun about the 2.

but there both fun and good cars.

I completely agree. I enjoyed the Fit, and while it's probably ultimately as capable as the M2, the Mazda feels much more rewarding to drive.

I hear strong rumors that the B-spec program will be picked up by either World Challenge or the Rolex Grand-Am series next year. I've got my fingers crossed!

Somewhere here, Dave Wheeler from Advanced Autosports joined us. He sold me some choice bits for my Miata and I am trying to get him to carry some go-fast bits for the 2. He is one of the best Spec Miata shops in the US. Hopefully he will do the same for the 2. He just got a 2 not long ago and ran Thunderhill with it. He is prepping it to beat some Fits and other 2s including Mazda Factory ones.

Was able to drive the Fit around the same track (its called Honda Jazz over here). the 1500 has alot of "umph" compared to the 1300 M2 ofcourse but the braking and handling of the Mazda through first 2/3 of the corner (entry and mid-corner) is something to watch out for. If you time it just right, you can power down earlier than other cars. Here's a short clip, in a field full of Hondas (Fit, EG, ESi), a Mazda (even at 1300) can hold its own. I do envy the Fit's 1500 engine and countries with a 1500 Mazda2 manual transmission though.

The clip starts just before the Yokohama Hairpin, the Jazz (Fit) in front is really quick flat-out but when we checked the AMB timing, through the same sector, the Mazda was 0.67 seconds faster, carrying better speed. Summing up, the balance is a dream.

I get to go up against a Honda Fit this weekend at the BFGoodrich Super Tour in the CorkSport Mazda 2. I get the benefit of the 1500cc Mazda engine so it will be interesting to see how it compares to your race with the jazz.

Watching your video I do the same thing you do in moving to shift before the car ever gets to the redline.

I'm pretty sure your 1500 Mazda can draft and overtake the Fit easily. I'm using stock pads and lines on slotted/cross-drilled aftermarket rotors but you'll be able to out brake them without any hassle. Good luck!
