Auto-x seems to be more cost effective. Only trouble is you only get 1 "lap" at a time. A little anti-climactic to say the least. On the other hand the chances of wadding your car up into a tire wall are zero. My problem is I would have to drive at least an hour to do any auto-x, and if I zoom-zoom-boom that means one hell of a tow bill.

I hear ya, Larry. But that's why I got AAA towing. And ya figure you're only pushing the motor/car for 70seconds (or 80+ seconds in my case, haha). But no pressure. At least come out and watch and ride along with someone, you'll want to do it in your own car for sure.

I know I will get hooked. Doing HPDE's is pretty much a no-go for me now that Andrew is here. Coming up with that kind of money even once a year would be tough. SCCA membership is cheap and the per event cost is also cheap. Do you see where I am going with this? I am all about cheap!
I really like the one lap at a time format. In my mind the limited number of chances at the course really separate the good drivers.
