CX7 shakes and shimmies while braking ..Mazda has a fix

I have a MY07 CX7 with 22k miles.I have a problem with the car vibrating and shaking while braking.I was getting ready to buy rotors thinking they were warped.I took it to the dealer as a last resort and they told me that there is a major defect in the braking system and they are replacing just about every part in the wheel area that are part of the braking system ie.rotors, pads, bearings, backing plate, brackets etc.Its under warranty and takes about 4 hours to do.The biggest problem is the parts are backordered indefinatly since Mazda are in the building of the 2010 models they are not sure when the parts will be in.(uhm)So if you have the same problem it is no use going in now unless you are near the end of your warranty.I will keep you posted on my progress.

not my fault

Actually its my wifes car .I drive an Element and she drives about 2 miles a day to the office. She could not get over 45 miles per hour on the road she drives. Its an 07 with 22k on it and we bought it with 9000 miles a year ago in july. She loves the car and still does.It is nothing we do its a manufacture defect.

Perhaps that's the issue that my wife's CX has. it's an 07 with about 23k miles and has developed a vibration or shake when braking. I guess I'll have the dealer look at that as well, while they're fixing the leaking oil pan issue.

A lot of the European version (6speed manual AWD) models suffer from this. The brake disks are getting hot for no reason, and it takes only one violent brake from 100 down to 50Mph and the disks begin to vibrate like hell. After a few more violent brakes the vibrations become persistent and won't go away even when the disks are cold.

Does anyone know where from can I buy some good rotors, at least for the front, for the CX7 6M/T? The diameter of the front rotors is 320mm, just like for the mazdaspeed3, so a bit larger than for the automatic transmission version (296mm?). However, the mazdaspeed3 rotors won't fit because they are thinner (24-25mm versus 28mm on CX7).
People around here are sick and tired of getting the rotors warranty replaced over and over again.

33,000 miles and my 07 CX7 brakes are smooth and powerful. I have made many 80 to 10 mph stops and no issues yet. I was taught not to keep a heavy pressure on the pads after a long hard stop because of heat issues and this applies to any vehicle.

We've made a few 80-0, 75-0 stops with no problems (no one knows how to drive on the highway here) but you'd have to look aftermarket for a decent brake. You have to ask yourself how much you want to spend though. I've seen Brembo Brake kits for the CX-7 for over $3700. That's a little excessive in my opinion. If you're looking for strictly rotors, I've seen some here: http://www.streetbeatcustoms.com/Mazda/CX7/Brakes/Brake-Rotors/ but i have no knowledge of this vendor or product.

Had mine replaced last week under warranty. Never noticed a big problem but the dealer said the problem came up on a test drive.

New parts as you describe above.

I assume the new parts are modified in some way so the problem won't come back?

No, they did not. The new rotors will last for a while, nobody knows, 2 minutes or 2 centuries, depending on how soon they will meet those conditions that make them bump their surface again. Some say that the facelift model doesn't have this problem, but I'm not sure what exactly did they change: the rotors material/design or the cooling ducts.

Just got a mint CPO 07 Cx-7 Sport AWD 16k miles and I was very surprised to see no brake duct cooling. My rotors were supposedly resurfaced by the dealer as a result of the CPO inspection process. I'll have to check if they are new or really were resurfaced. A 3700 pound sporty SUV needs brake cooling.

Hi guys, I am from Slovakia, Europe. I have got CX-7, 6 speed manual AWD, 12/2007 and have problem with brake rotors always. CX-7 has 60 000 km and 4th set of Mazda front brake rotors. I am also looking for any other brake rotors. I always have to pay for new brake rotors and changing. Mazda do not know how to solve this problem. Or Mazda do not want to solve this problem.
Lots of european CX-7 have this problem with front brake rotors.

The problem is the pads in early 2007-2009 cars... When you re-installing brand new mazda 0EM rotors, just avoid to install 0EM pads, try EBC greenstuff-yellowstuff or something semi metallic in pads. I did this and I solved the problem . I run this setup for 4000km and my rotors are fine, metal shiny and braking is slightly better than before.

probably OEM pads are not create dust and they are overheating the rotors

My wife drive Mazda CX 7 (2.3 turbo engine). The car is vibrating and shaking at violent braking if we drive more then 60 miles per hour. A car dealer already replace front rotors but after a few weeks we had the same problems. I heard that lots of european CX-7 (2.3 turbo engine) have this problem with front brake rotors.
Does anyone know what should i do? Should i buy some better brake kits from Brembo, etc?

Check out my previous post. All the problem is focused on stock mazda pads. If your car is still on warranty, go to the dealer and ask him to replace again your rotors. Then do not install the stock pads just bring them one set of aftermarket pads e.g. EBC greenstuff, yellowstuff, APEC and tell them to install, or install by yourself.

Alternativly you can hone (surface) your faulty rotors or just buy new rotors (296mm diameter for auto, 320mm diameter for manual)

i am i have the same problem did your mazda dealer say it was a manufactures problem and is it covered under warranty my reason for double checking is becuase the place i bought my cart from they are all ass wholes and they would probably tell me i did something to the brakes

Yes, they accepts the faliure as a mazda problem. This happens usually on 2007-2009 cars, but you can still ask for rotor replacement. Go to dealer with stock rims...
