My '99 Protege Sport 20 build

I am the proud owner of a 1999 pure white Mazda Protege. My brother was the second owner and he bought the car in 2001. over the years I have had a lot of cars and the protege fell into my hands in 2008. When i got the car it was just a base model Dx, but it has been upgraded significantly. It started with a Katzkin Leather interior and some JDM rims, but as you will see I did not stop there. My suspension has been fully upgraded and the car now has Intake/Header/Exhaust. My most recent upgrade was the addition of a JDM Sport 20 front bumper, grille and fog lights. I have put all the Mazdaspeed parts that i could find and I am still upgrading the car every chance i get. Below are some pictures of my build and I will upgrade this thread periodically with updates.

I have a set of Miata rims that i picked up a while ago and i decided to swap them out today and see how they ride. Initial impression is that the car feels slightly quicker with the alloys...

The instrument cluster in my car will only work with 99-00 protege. For 2001-2003 the clusters changed, the temperature needle will not work correctly if you mis match years. If you want to upgrade to a cluster with a tach on 2001+ protege you should use the P5 or MSP cluster... Those look the best in my opinion. Well Im out of a job and broke at the moment. Would I have to do any special wiring in putting an MSP cluster in?

On my car I had to run one wire for the tach, I am not sure if you will have to. Some cars are pre-wired for the tach. It was a very easy upgrade...

I just installed a MSP radio DIN, I will post up some pictures later tonight... I was in a rush and totally forgot to get the support bar. I actually got it from a 99-00 that was in the junk yard. I guess I am going back tommorow... It fits perfect without the support bar, not sure if the 99-00 cars even need or came with the support bar...

I put the msp radio pocket in my 99interview without a support bar and it looks perfect. The newer models have a gap without it.

Thanks for the response... I think the main reason is like you said the newer ones don't have any support so there is nothing to hold the cage in place. My radio and MSP pocket fit perfect. I don't think the 99-00 cars even came with the support bar. I don't remember seeing one on the car i pulled this off.

Hello there, I saw you did the sport 20 front end to your protege, i want to do that to mines but i cant find a site or where to get that sport 20 front bumper anywhere. so i was wondering if you can help me out here ples. where did you get yours from? i would apreciate your help alot. thanks

He got it off a member on this forum who was selling it its kinda hard to find but if you are patient you could find one eventually in a FS thread. You might have a better chance checking a foreign board like astina gt.com or club323f just an idea. Good luck in your search
