hat1018's build thread

Hey Larry, where are the pics of your P5?(lol2)

As far as the short shifter, if you want to hold off a bit I might be buying a different lever since I have a Probe GT shift linkage now. I need to do some more research but I can sell you the shifter for $50. I bought it for $100. But no pressure, mate!
Just keep me posted as to what you find and we can talk.

There, happy now?

Car looked good last night, Larry! Let me know when you want to do those headlights, we can have a buff party here, since I need to do mine again, and Evan was asking me to buff something on the Milly.

Sounds good to me. My guess would be to wait til after the first of the year. Maybe by then I can get a look at Evan's hood and make a decison as to what I want to do for a hood. If his is too bad I suppese I could just find a new one either aftermarket or OEM.

She looks good Larry! Here's that vid clip of the MSP axleback...again not the best but hope it helps some....

*edit* forgot I had this clip. Altspace took this vid at one of the NEPOC meets. Had I known he was taking the vid I would have got on the gas a bit more. lol

Oh yes please! I just need the rear trunk lid buffed where the badges were. And I realized about half way home last night I didn't even look at your P5. Doh!!! But it was good seeing you guys and meeting Andrew.

That exhaust doesn't sound bad at all Jeff. Problem is vids never sound exactly the same. Know what I mean? Thanks for posting it though, I appreciate it.

In the distance of the gear changes or the height of the shifter? I think the height is perfect.

The Kartboy changes both. The factory height is good for not having to move your hand too far from the wheel in a track situation, however, it feels like you're rowing a damn boat. I highly recommend trying to find a set of Kartboy or equivalent shifter bushings. They make one helluva difference in driving experience.

Regarding springs, the S-techs are a good spring rate, but slightly too low to take advantage of the proper suspension geometry. I would presonally recommend the H&R for their ride height. Unfortunately, they are a progressive rate spring. The other good one from the geometry standpoint is the Racing Beat springs. They are less of a drop, but still within ideal geometry range.

I think a short shifter is going to be okay. I have been shifting lately with my hand below the shift knob, it's the wrong angle but it gives me a decent idea of what it will be like.
What is your opinion of Eibach pro-kit springs (1.8f/1.2r) Nate has a new set he will sell me for $125. Not a bad deal for a name brand. progressive rate also. It seems that most of the choices are progressive springs.

Yeah, a lot of them are. I believe that DaveB had (or has) the Pro-Kit. There's nothing wrong with progressive rates for a daily driver. Track use may prove to be less predictable than a linear set.

I am really not concerned with a track type set-up. Since I know that I am only going to put the car on track once a year, maybe twice there is really no need to go for that sort of set-up. I want a reasonable drop on a spring set that is stiffer than stock and perform better than stock on twisties and be able to haul 2 adults in the back and not bottom out or rub my tires.

Then yeah, H&R's, Pro-Kit, or Racing Beat would be right up your alley.

Thanks Phen, your input is important. I don't want to pump the pooch on this.

I have the Prokits for a PGT with Tokico Illuminas on mine. I think they're fine for an aftermarket setup. I mean I'd much rather have coilovers, but I like my suspension very stiff. Evan said it was already plenty stiff when he rode in it, said it was stiffer than his S-techs and Blues. As far as I can determine from driving mine concerning the progressive rate, it seems to get smoother the faster you go. I know for the first few weeks after the install I was flying everywhere.

When I had my S-Techs and Tokico's with the stock P5 wheels, I didn't need to roll the fenders. And I had a s*** ton of music gear in the rear on a weekly basis without any rubbing. But rubbed a lot when I got my Enkei's which are +45. But after a proper rear fender roll that is no longer an issue. But you plan on getting wheels eventually, right Larry? So maybe the S-tech's aren't the best setup for you, like Phen said. Unless you don't mind a fender roll, which isn't a big deal. But something to consider.

I still loved my Tein/Tokico setup though. Had a few Hyperdrives on that setup too and DD'ed it for 3 years.

<------------now has fender roller. just sayin

This guy needs to look more closly at his notes before he posts. The pro kit drop is 1.4f/1.2r. Dumb ass!

You can pilot my P5 next time we see eachother, Larry. I have the kartboy shifter and bushings.
Deal.

Tien seems to be the spring of choice, but 2.0f/1.5r might be too much for me. Yes I do plan on getting wheels of some sort and as long as the drop isn't too much I won't need to roll the fenders. I thought I wanted Ivan's MZ3 wheels but when he said $600 I decided I would go another direction. Craigs list has a s*** ton of wheels right now.

Damn Nate I just want to see your garage, it seems that you have a lot of stuff.
