The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Speaking of automatic P5's, this cat in AJ's build thread has a supercharged P5 or Protege (I can't remember which) and he put down 115whp and 150-ish torque. I put down 115whp on a Mustang dyno being N/A. He said the auto robs 40% of the power. That seemed like a BS number to me. I said there might be something very wrong with his car to be supercharged at 4psi and only put down that much power...

autos do rob alot of power, don't know about 40%.

A typical manual drivetrain takes about 25-30% of the power. 40% out from the automatic... possible, but probably closer to 35% in my guess.

I thought losses were more around 10-15% for manuals and 20-25% for autos? I could be way off though haha

Really depends on the whole drivetrain to be honest.
Stock Protege5 with a manual is 130 chp, and around 95 whp. That's about 27% loss.
Stock MSM is 178 chp and roughly 140 whp. That's around 21% loss.

yeah he said he had 115 hp and 157 wtq.

cres's manual p5 had 160 hp and about 160 tq.

strange because it is similar tq numbers, but very different hp numbers.

i cant wait to tune mine and get mine dynoed.

The search is over. I now own a 2003 P5! I am not 100% ok with the deal but it is close to what I wanted. I pick it up tomorrow afternoon. I plan to try to get 100-150 more off, since it needs at least 2 tires. Upon further inspection the dipshit that had the car before replaced the tires on the right side instead of putting them on the front or rear axle.

Yeah, Mark. My dad is like an even grumpier version of me so it was really funny.

Larry, congrats on the P5, buddy! Bring it up sometime so I can check it out. :)

Finals are Done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! already got my grade back for accounting (got a c) now just waiting for the math grade

P5's only rated at 28mpg highway? I've been averaging 31 mixed in mine recently, with year-old oil, lulz.

And of course, congrats Larry! What will the first mods be? :D

I am not overly worried about the mileage, although I would be happy getting 28-30/gal. That would be 6-8 mpg better than the minivan (that we had to slide the seat forward in) It is all about fitting a baby seat in the back without having to move the passenger seat all the way to the dash. Plus I just dig the looks of it.

I got 26mpg in my P5 with my bad driving habits so I'm sure you'll get better. My hood isn't in perfect condition but it's better than that one. And I'm always down for a meet!

You turkeys free this weekend?

Straight, 100% highway, my best was 36mpg. Summertime city was around 28-29, and now it's around 26-27. I don't grandpa it either, I usually flog it to show my disgust for idiot drivers! lol

Depends on the time/place for us this weekend. I may have to run an errand wit a buddy on Saturday morning, then I'm sure I'll be working on Wes' truck some too. I'd take a break for sure to see the new car! (oh...and I guess the new baby too if you bring him. haha)
