The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

so i got this strange email from Progressive saying 'sorry, we miss you'...i was like what? so i called them to see what it was about...

turns out i let my auto insurance expire instead of my renters insurance which i thought was going to expire/cancel...

...yeah, so i haven't had car insurance for either of my cars since April...yikes; good thing i never hit anyone or got pulled over!
and what sucks is that since there's a six month or so lap in insurance they're charging me like 200 buck more! lucky for me i'll be turning 25 early next year and i'm getting those Snapshot things that plug into the OBDII port and tracks: if you drive over 30 miles at one time, break really hard/quickly, or driving after 2am. ...so if i do any autox, track days, or fun runs...it's getting unplugged for that time period! lol
so from those two things my insurance should go down by at least 40% or so, which will be much nicer!

i do feel better being completely legal and all! and remember, if you cancel insurance, know what your canceling before you do it! hehe

just read how it works
gotta keep it plugged in for 30 days, they give you a discount, you continue to drive with it plugged in for 6 months then mail it back and they reevaluate your next 6 month premium based on the results

so you have to be a super boring driver for 6 months, and TRUST me they will know if you unplug it...
your rate wont increase from the orignal quote, but is it really worth 30% cheaper (total best case scenario) but they base it on how far you drive, how quickly you accelerate, how often you accelerate, any sudden stops, the time of day you are driving etc etc... they dont monitor speed or track where you actually are but still i dont think it would be worth it.

so basically you are betting on saving some money by putting yourself in "safer" situations according to insurance standards but thats going to mean you are losing out on things like track events, fun runs and autocrosses for those 6 months while the car is plugged in

Haha! That was awesome, Peaches.

I farking hate insurance companies... I mean, all of us are better drivers than 90% of the public because they don't know car control or anything, yet we still pay the same amount of insurance as those folks? I wish there was an advanced driving training class that after you passed you could drive faster on highways and other priviliges on the road. I think you can take a course at Mid-Ohio that will decrease your insurance rates. But I mean, look at all the members on this forum who are awesome drivers and know vehicle dynamics yet are still paying as much as some soccer mom in her SUV texting while driving. Arg.

$107 a month to insure my P5 pisses me off. Sorry, I'm done now. Happy thoughts, it's friday. :)

wanna hear something that will piss you off?? I pay less for full coverage on the 3 and 20k in renters insurance combined than you do for the p6 haha :p

Haha! Shut your ***** mouth when you're talking to me, MonkeyAss.

I got a quote for when I was going to buy my dads 2010 Mazda3 and it was actually less than my P5. WTF?

Which remind me, I need to get a quote for the Milly. This better be cheap...

Well, we won't say what we pay.....but nonetheless we have really nice rates on all 3 cars, even the MSP!

I completely agree with the insurance thing. My fiancee who is an average driver at best pays $30/month and I pay close to $100.

i now pay $80 a month for both the MSM and protege...

...i'd really recommend looking into different insurance companies or lowering your coverage (like my protege has nothing covered on it)

That's what the off-season is for.

I hate insurance, they always want to do what's best for them and not the car, that's why I'm glad I found a shop that isn't afraid to argue with them about what needs done.

And speaking of which, my insurance guy called yesterday and today saying my car should be ready but I haven't heard from the shop yet...

i guess i really won't mind... especially since the next 6 months will be the cold winter months where no one should be driving crazy anyway, like track days or autox...we have one fun run soon, but as long as i plug it back in after a couple hours, i'll be fine.

Yeah, but you drive like a grandpa anyway, so what does it matter?

That's what I don't get. I just looked at my family's report, and even though my truck is the oldest vehicle and I have a clean record, it's 867 per year for me to be on it (main driver on it, that's what's cheapest, apparently), with just liability. My mom's Prius that's worth much more was like 440/year or something.

So what's with the Facebook connect icon? Why do the two need to be integrated?
