Noise When Turning

It sounds like I have a rubbing noise from the right front on left turns. It sounds metallic. It's speed dependent.

I may have hit a pot hole the day it started. Nothing is obviously rubbing, and I think it may be suspension related.

Ideas?

Im interested in the answer for this because mine is doing the same thing except for opposite. Its the drivers side and its worse when I turn right. I'm just hope its not a bearing inside the transmission.

Starting to think it's brake related. Try checking your rotor/caliper clearance. I may beat on the rotor backing plate a bit today to make sure its not rubbing.

Honestly it sounds like a wheel bearing, but I pray its not in the tranny. I've already had to replace my trans once because of a bearing that burnt up and sent my input shaft almost all the way through the case and then the lsd broke in half in the new one. I'm not looking forward to taking that trans apart again.

Drive down the road and load and unload the front wheels, if the noise is augmented in one direction then it's a good chance it's a wheel bearing. Though, you say it's a metallic noise, and most often a wheel bearing will make a 'roaring' type noise...

It's more of a pulsating grind. Almost a ring... like something is rubbing on the brake rotor... Sure ain't obvious, though.

May be obvious but hows the wear of your pads? Do they need changed soon? Possible wear indicator?

just take it to a shop and request a free front end check. ive done it before, and they usually do it because they want your business. if they deny it for free go to another shop, theyre a dime a dozen.

You get what you pay for... I manage one of the more prominent, well-known, quality European shops in my city... I don't do "free"... You get ASE certified master technicians with 20+ years of experience, plus a complete staff of ASE certified Service Consultants, diagnostic equipment that rivals what the dealer uses, and a free cup of coffee (LOL) at my shop. Take it to Firestone and you get a 18 year old tire slinger that get's to step up the ladder that day because Joe Bob got too wasted the night before after his favorite Nascar driver lost or, if you're lucky his favorite driver didn't lose, so he only had *a little too much* the night before and he's actually at work that day, but he's in his 40's and only making $16 per flag hour, so he's not that motivated to inspect a vehicle he's only getting $8 to inspect.

ohh sooo cynical. i took it to a monroe chain, the guy drove my car for a few minutes then put it on the lift and inspected with a flash light, told me and showed me what was wrong, told me i still had a good 5k on the struts that were starting to blow, gave me good info. as long as you have an idea of what youre going in for (i knew my struts were going, didnt know how long i had though) and he gave me information that coincided with what i already knew.

plus its a FREE diagnosis, so when you say you get what you pay for youre wrong, because the worst thing they can give you is nothing, but you could also at the same time get a great diagnosis like i had gotten. hence why i said take it to a few places. even if you go to different places and get free inspections at every place then youll know if what they are saying is right.

I drove it today and it felt fine. No vibration. On left handers it just is noisy. The sound almost has a ring to it. I'm convinced it's the brakes.

Changed out the rotors and the pads... no help, maybe worse. The M-clips were obviously rubbing and making a ring on both sides. Took 'em out. That sound is gone but still making a grind/ring on left handers... Not sure what to do next. Wheel bearing?

Grindin noise

IM not a mechanic and i dont no much about cars but WHAT I DO NO IS tht i have a protege with the same problem... i replaced both cv joins b4 i installing my new 18* chromes NO NOISE..but a month after i kept hearing this grindin sound its like your dragging a huge rock on a concrete pavement but as u said it with a metalic sound so im guess the weight of the chrome is damaging my suspensions but i dont no if its the wheel bearing.. i doubt its the cv since i changed those recently but then again with the chrome on i wont be suprised if i did infact shorten their life with weight of the chrome is hard to tell let me no if u get a fix

If it's speed dependent, I'm willing to bet it is the wheel bearing.
