The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

What are some good brakes for the p5's? I was just going to hit up the Zone or something for some OEM replacements, but I figured I'd see if there were some performance brakes decently priced first.

I've been using Hawk HPS's for the last 100k miles. I'm on my 2nd set. Great stopping for everyday use and the occasional fun run. But, since they are a carbon metalic you get quite a bit of brake dust.

For the Columbus peeps, I'm gonna be down there on Saturday a little before noon. I'll be here getting some food from the mother land, so if you want to join me you're more than welcome.

I'll have to check my work schedule, but I'll join you for some street meat if I can

just got done with an interview, I think it went well but I'm one of 68 for just one opening so we'll see

+1 I have Hawk HPS on all four corners and like them as well. They are available at Summit Racing though they don't show up if you look up the P5, so I just cross referenced the Hawk part number and found them.

Summit Racing - $70 for the front

Hawks website and part number so you can double check the part number. ;) Part number; HB211F.606

Or you can order them online cheaper. But I like picking up my parts locally.

they have empanadas made with cheese & pineapple, awesome! last time I was there she was saving up for a new fridge so she could sell desserts, that was last year so she might have some of those.

and arepas, basically a corn pattie with cheese (you can request no cheese), just request no meat with it

I'll be heading out around 10AM so... 11:45? or noon?. If more people are coming then I can come later, here's what I'm talking about:

Empanadas: the yellow ones are stuffed with seasoned meat\potato\herbs, the other ones are stuffed with cheese and pineapple, both of them deep fried:

Arepas: corn patties with cheese, grilled. She usually does the meat\peppers\onions on top but she can just do the arepa.

I wish we could trade Miatas...

I started thinking, since I'll be filling my motor mounts in the next few days or so, what's the best way to support the motor while the mounts are out? Having all four out at once would be the most time efficient, but since I don't have a crane, I dunno if a jack will be able to hold the motor straight with just a single point of contact. I think the jack droops if left with weight on it for a long time, so it'd have to be a jack stand, too. And since the oil pan is pretty rusty, I dunno that that's the best idea to have all of that weight on it, anyway. Any ideas how I should go about this? Would it be too much weight to let the motor sit on the crossmember and shim the sides with pieces of wood so the lines don't get pinched or pulled?

awesome...i will eat chicken if i have to, but i can't eat a lot of it...i was a vegetarian for so long that it's hard to eat a lot of meat now, so i still avoid it

You can order hawk pads from Andrew-Racing and get them cheaper that Summit. Jay is local and has aceess to Hawks Factory. Just tell him that I referred you and you'll save money. Jay is the official brake supplier to all of the NASA regions, including great lakes.

I have Hawk pads as well and I don't get nearly as much dust as I did with OEM pads.

I have my HPS' with Centric Premium Rotors and they have been bulletproof for over a year now. Great on the street and strong enough on the autocross track. I got my pads from Protege Garage with no issue and free shipping.

Is that a good rotor choice as well? Or would just the pads with OEM rotors be sufficient for daily use and NO track time, ever.

montrose has one for sale... it's in great shape... :(

I think the plan so far is, keep the Miata until I can fill my mounts on the 626, then it goes up for sale. Buy an early 90's Toyota or Nissan Hardbody 4x4 5 speed to drive during the winter and the 626 swap for the KLZE. Drive the ZE as the DD. Probably sell the truck at some point, and buy a 240 with an SR or RB swap and turbo, of course. I need to play around with one and get it out of my system, but I'll probably just want to kill myself trying to have fun in a pre-modded car. I'll sell that and do the turbo Miata project, then. I'm not sure what kind of a time frame this would be, though.
