The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

i got hawk pads and power slot slotted rotors, i would recommend the hawk hps pads, mine have been great and seem to be holding up very well

Is that a good rotor choice as well? Or would just the pads with OEM rotors be sufficient for daily use and NO track time, ever.

Well, yeah. I wouldn't have recommended them if I didn't like them. I used HPS pads with OEM rotors and had no problem. Just make sure the rotors are still in good shape with plenty of life on them. If they're not, you might as well do it all at once.

I ran the HPS for a while on my P5 before the MSP brake upgrade. I liked them. I have the HP+ on the Miata. The HPS don't dust anywhere near as much as the HP+ do... and my wheels are white. Dust is all part of the brake game. If you don't like dust, don't drive the car.

Or I guess you could put a blocking plate behind the wheel and in front of the rotor. That would work too.

I just don't know if it's worth having more dust with upgraded pads, as opposed to OEM replacements. Let alone the fact that I could get new pads AND rotors for cheaper than just a set of Hawk pads. I've never found a need for better stopping power in all my years if driving, so I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around $70 pads...lol

Could be worse... Mine were $110...

I'll take you for a ride in the MSM and you let feel the upgraded brakes. The harnesses only do so well holding you in place. I've damn near hit my head on the top of the windshield.

yeah, it could be worse... i also have HP+, don't really care about he extra dust (or noise) but I do find that I use the brakes less while on the street and they're awesome for the track. if you're not pushing the car then HPS or stock would be alright. I just like to feel comfortable that i can STOP if some jackass is in my way

Hmm... I bought the HP+ because I expected to auto-x it a lot more... then I broke it. Then I fixed it... and broke something else. Then fixed it, and the trend contiuned and I eventually said "**** that s***." Unless they're warm, the HP+ aren't really any better than the stock pads I had on the car.

I want to attribute a lot of that to your tires. I mean, if you can clamp the stock pads hard enough that the wheel locks, you've got plenty of brake torque. I think a lot of the hype about pads is just that. I totally see the value in the fade resistance, for the track. But that is an insane feeling when you come completely out of the seat and you're only touching the harness.

I mean my Miata doesn't stop so well, but it's got some awesome Douglas tires on the front. Yea buddy, straight from WuMart, 45$ a piece. Oh, and stock, mashed potato suspension.

I'll be heading out around 10AM so... 11:45? or noon?. If more people are coming then I can come later, here's what I'm talking about:

Empanadas: the yellow ones are stuffed with seasoned meat\potato\herbs, the other ones are stuffed with cheese and pineapple, both of them deep fried:

Arepas: corn patties with cheese, grilled. She usually does the meat\peppers\onions on top but she can just do the arepa.

I have to work at 1 so i might be out

Josh, the P5 has a pretty good stock braking system. I'm sure you'll be fine with some quality pads from Autozone. No worries.

I just upgrade parts as I go thus the Hawk pads and Brembo blank rotors. But like you said, your P5 won't see any track time so stockers will be fine for your driving style on the street. :)

for my front I've been on stock pads and rotors since 07 (guessing around 50k), still have some use out of them but since I'm working on everything else I figured why wait until the fall, the rears are another story. On my 3rd set of rotors (1 stock replacement and 2 Centric blanks from tri-point) and 3rd set of pads (1 stock 2 Axis pads from Tri-point). I didn't notice a difference in mine. The rear calipers were replaced last year and that has helped alot.

Thanks for the input everyone! This squeaking/squealing is getting annoying! I find my self downshifting alot to stop so I can apply as little brake pressure as possible. LOL

Sucks, cause there's plenty of life left in the pads, they must just be of a lower quality to be making this much noise?

could just needs some grease on the shims?

i downshift all the time anyway... No point in using the brakes when they dont need to be used...

Hmm...maybe? I thought it might've been the wear indicators, but upon initial inspection (through the spokes of the wheel lol), I didn't see any.

I've been trying to teach the wife to do this...it's a hard concept for her to grasp. lol

My dad taught me that with the basics of driving, so its just second nature to me anymore... People didnt believe me when i told them i put 75k on my 3 and still had over half life on the brake pads... They needed replaced cause i glazed them over like crazy from autocrossing, not cause they were worn out
