Working with any mods already?

sad to say but NO, this is the first (of many I hope)...$ is hard to come by with a baby and a wife that doesnt work. Im planning on a CAI or SRI as the next power adding bolt-on. Any suggestions? Ive read alot on this forum and it I still cannot decide.

im very happy with just the intake and hypertech. honestly, any aftermarket intake is good for this car. most manufacturers will publish 15-20 additional hp for the intake alone.

Thanks for your opinion...an intake will be my next purchase for sure. Are you running a CAI or SRI? By the way, nice bike in your avatar...A gixxer?

I'm running the mazdaspeed cai. But the differences and arguments between cai and sri have beaten so many dead horses around here every user on this forum is banned from attending the triple crown

The only solid argument between the two is a cai has the higher possiblility of sucking up water if you were to, say, go in a giant puddle. The cai is gonna be right around the same level as your wheel bearing

By the way, nice bike in your avatar...A gixxer?

And yes, that was my old flame

I received my programmer a day early from truckaddons.com (sidenote: I got a great deal when I called to place the order...$333 before shipping) Although when I initially attempted installation the programmer said I required a software update before proceeding (did it through the hypertech website...easy) I eventually was successful and I LOVE the overall power output improvements. Bad thing is it's raining where I'm at in Cali so I can't really get into it without the DSC stepping in so I can't wait for the roads to dry up. Very happy so far!

Bad news for you, this car has so much torque (and much more if you enabled full throttle openning in first and second) to the wrong wheels that you're gonna get plenty of wheelspin anyway

Well....maybe not bad news, unless you're a tire

And that update happened to everybody, no biggie. So funny, the retail store I got mine from wanted to charge me an extra $50 to do that for me. Riiiiiight

intersting...i might get one? so far i only had done catless dp,stock tp, cnt catback on its way, full intake and bov.any tuneable map for my car?

Just ordered mine from streetsideauto.com for $322.95 + free shipping. Thanks to the rude customer service rep at truckaddons.com for making me find a better retailer :)

The hypertech isn't user-tunable. Its essentially going to maximize the capability of the stock turbo, even with bolt ons. If you are looking for specific tuning, don't get the hypertech

In fact, if your whole plan is tuning, get an ap and a professional shop to do it

Let's not underestimate the value of Hypertech for most of us. Indeed, it's intended for the stock K04 turbo, but most of us are not going to go big turbo or even attempt to have the stock turbo reworked. But, for less than $350, you get a lot of value in a SAFE, I repeat, SAFE tune that does not go zoom, zoom, boom because we or our wanna be tuner get stupid and make big mistakes with the maps.

For me, even with a catless dp/rp combo, colder plugs in addition to the CAI, I find this tune very beneficial. Load limits are raised significantly so that you can run 19 psi safely with big downpipe/racepipe and no cats. No load cut. None, as would be the case on stock tune at 17.5 psi, especially in cold weather. Boost is up consistent with the load limit. Boost holds way better than the stock tune with a nice slow taper to 5,800 rpm still holding 16 psi, and a gradual taper to redline with usable power to redline. Remember that the limit is the stock K04, which turns into a foundry furnace when pushed beyond 6,000 rpm with boost above 15 psi anyway. No tune can fix that..

And I get the benefit of smoothing out and eliminating those boost spikes I was getting with the catless dp/rp - I was spiking to 21 before.

And I get the benefit of very specific and carefully optimized maf correction for my intake.

And I get the benefit of the user selectable release of the 0-60 power hold back.

I've picked up power over the stock tune with my mods, and I'm pretty much bolted except for retaining the stock TMIC.

This is my daily driver. I am now at the power level I want for this kind of use. This is not a dedicated race car and I have no intention of trying to make it so. Hell, I can't even use all the power now with full access to power in first and second gear, so I've gone back to letting the ECU hold power back in first and second and enjoying the extra power from my mods and this tune once the tires hook up.

^^^you know...I was thinking about putting the restrictor back on the first few gears, its just worthless on the street with street tires

I'm getting tired of being over-conscientious about going easy on the gas when trying to do anything more than a moderate take off from a stop

My hypertech arrived today. Tried to tune but it's reporting a 'code 83 internal error'. Guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow to call tech support :(

I tried it again and it worked! Looks like I hit the id10t error. The power gains were immediately noticeable. I've never really driven the car hard before but I can feel the power in the lower gears plus now 5th is a little scary (for me anyway). Took it out for a quick test and I'm sold! Sorry it started raining just as I was starting to enjoy it.
The only mod I have is the CPe Xcel Nano SRI. Removed 0-60mph restriction and used the CPe Xcel Tune. Pretty impressive.

Glad you are enjoying it. The HT tune is the definitely worth the coin!
