Turbo Rotary Mazda B2600i Minitruck Build!

Sorry guys. Things have been slow. My welder broke so I had to wait for taxes to buy a new one.

I am still waiting on a turbo manifold for some stupid reason.

Hopefully when it starts to warm up a bit I will have some good updates!

Glad u guys r still checking in haha

Stop by my place, I can loan you a welder. The cost is gas would be more than the price of a new welder though.

well, its still winter, but there have been a few nice days, and i have got a lot of work done on both trucks, and i have pics.

the turbo mani deal is still pissing me off since he wont even return my texts or calls so i can get my flanges and bends back from him, so i still wait on that.

but i have made progress, and everything is starting to come together interior wise for the bagged mazda.

anywho, u guys wanted to see the new mazda i got for a daily driver, so here it is.

paid $400 for it with two engines( that i later found out are both s***) and a whole lot of other parts. interior is perfect!

so i got bored and didnt have a welder to work on the other truck, so i decided to static drop this mazda.
3 inch blocks in the rear monoleafed. reindexed torsions in the front and cranked them down...
then i picked up some used tires and wheels, had them sandblasted, then my buddy painted them hot rod red for me. the whitewalls are custom diy and took about thirty minutes a wheel..

also started getting parts to bag this truck also.
slam specialties re7s and an avs 7 switch switchbox.

the direction this truck is headed is that its going to just be bagged. no bodydrop, no shaved anything. but i cant drive around a stock vehicle, so it had to be modded lol...
so every year taxes make me feel like im rich for a month or so, so i get to buy some goodies..

my other welder was broken, so i knew what i was buying first off...
power mig lincoln 140c fully adjustable welder(top of the line 110 welder from lincoln)

so it was time to start working on the custom sheetmetal floor for the mazda in the garage...
ive been searching on how to do this since i have never doen anything even close to this before, and so i decided to stop being a f***ing vagina and just jump in head first and get it done..
5554952668_6de0124afb_b.jpg

also finished my tranny crossmember, but i think i will change it again. im not happy with it even though it will never be seen...

for those of u who care i am using 16 ga for the floor and havent had too many problems with it warping, but it is very difficult to weld to the 1x1 frame that i have made. it seems to penetrate fine, but then snaps right off on my tacks. very weird lol. but i have got it figured out, and damn near fully welded now!
5554371953_41f0811f19_b.jpg

so then i cut out my spacer peices to clear the frame and tacked them in and made sure everything was level as possible. once again, this really wont matter as it will be covered in dynamat and carpet, but i am a perfectionist, and it will bug the hell out of me if it isnt just right...

added the front section...

little more..
5554378983_6e3c757b36_b.jpg

so then i pulled it out to weld from the bottom. the ol lady came out to see what i was doing at this point. she asked me if this was the passenger side to which i replied yes it is. she says," u might wanna put a little more bracing down there for my fatass."
i thought that was funny, lol.
anywho, started welding it up making sure i got good penetration to hold a solid weld so i didnt have to worry about my wife falling through the floor on heavy drag sessions lol...

closeup of the weld. i think that'll do eh?

so thats all i have pics of, but i am planning on using a good majority of the stock tranny tunnel, then i will have to pull the cab to full weld everything up and also to finish the bottom side of the frame, but it is coming together nicely.

hope u guys enjoy the updates!

hopefully keep this thing more updated now that there will be progress made!

Nice to see some progress on this project! Those are some nifty welds as well! Good choice in welders, but why 110 over a 220?

awesome update keep up the good work
thanks, slowly but surely!

YES!! Getting there. This is such a badass build.
thanks a lot!

110 is just easier for me so i dont have to disconnect the dryer every time i go to weld lol.

laziness basically, plus cost. for what i do the 110 is just fine!

Sweet ride! I got a buddy of mine working on a B2000. Slow going but little by little he's getting there. He keeps trying to convince me to get a mini but I can't give up my Protege yet. Still... pretty tempting LOL!

Can't wait to see your ride finished!

I used kilz primer in a spray can. Sanded the tires down a bit and then cleaned the hell out of them then lacquer thinnered them real good. Then tape em off, cleaned em again, and put on three coats!

Two of them look really good and the other two are starting to crack, but for about three dollars in supplies, u can't beat it!

I hear you with the convenience factor! For the welding you do you should be fine. I love my 220V welder, but it sucks if a friend wants something done at their place since most people don't have 220 readily available.

Man, if all the B2200's didn't rot the frames off them around here I would totally have one! I love those little trucks! A guy local to me completely rebuilt one and dropped a 4.3L Vortec with a 4 Barrel carb in one. What a rocket!

Sounds like it is time to get the flanges and weld elbows and make your own turbo manifold.

-Derrick

I already bought them once and don't wanna buy them again, plus they are stainless, and I can't weld stainless...

Just gonna have to wait I guess. Now that its nice out there is plenty more to be done on the truck and this floor is taking forever to weld without warping the **** out of it.

It pisses me off nonetheless. I text and call and call and text some more and he finally gets back to me after a week or so. I don't get it. It would take him probably thirty minutes to weld it up. Fucken blows my mind how peoplen give u the run around for so long on s*** that would take a portion of a day to do and I'm compensating well for...
