Ricktalife's EPIC fails and maybe a build thread too

Yea I used to be big into 240's and I couldn't even fit the gt25 turbine into the Nissan housing it was that much snaller

So do you guys think an upgraded FPR is a waste? If so please explain why and if you are convincing I will sell it.

Since 2.0T03speed has informed me about the smaller size of the Nissan turbo I bought, I will be selling it and installing another MSP stock turbo that he happened to have for sale (coincidence? lol). So if anybody is interested in a Nissan T25 turbo for something like a twin turbo setup or a supercharger / turbo setup then let me know. It is in great condition.

Nah, we're going to keep him motivated to finish it. He's sending me his windows and I am going to duplicate them in Acrylic. Then we are going to do a group buy on them. He needs a few things like a turbo, so maybe you guys could work out a deal??

So I've noticed a whining noise that started a while back which I am told could be tranny whine. It is most noticeable in lower gears, but since the recent installation of the rear and trans mounts, it has become much worse. Does this usually signify a failing LSD, or possibly something else?

it could just be magnifying the noise man. it may not ACTUALLY be worse.

Recently acquired:

-Raptor battery terminals
-Vibrant strut tower bar

Hopefully going to swap out my winter setup this weekend so I can get back to my perrrty MB weapons.

Currently waiting for my new Thunder V3 manifold to arrive. Several items to go in soon including:

-Exedy stage 1 clutch
-Thunder V3 manifold
-Replacement T25 turbo
-Corksport s-pipe
-Eibach pro kit

Also need to get my car up on a lift so I can fix this god damn noisy suspension. I don't know if the springs will help at all, but I'm thinking it could be bad struts causing some of the noise. I'm on the fence about selling the Eibach's and just shelling out some more cash for full coilovers, since it would make more sense than buying new struts to go along with the springs. Anybody have an idea as to what could be causing the noise? I know it is not the sway bar bushings because I can hear that as well. The noise I am concerned with is much louder than that. It is a loud squeaking noise and is most prominent when going over speed bumps in cold weather. So loud that you can hear it even with the radio blasting.

Rick, I've been going through the suspension noise battle for the past four months now. Not sure if it's one we can win.

The only really loud creaking I ever had was the rear sway bar bushings. The rears are a piece of cake, so if you haven't gobbed some white lithium on them recently, it's worth a shot.

The front right was definitely making a racquet back in November, some creaking, but it sounded like it was slapping the pavement over small cracks. There was some oil leaking out of the front right strut so I decided to replace them all. Because of the retardedly expensive rear OEM struts, I decided to go with the HPK, which I figured would be almost identical in performance. Big mistake.

They were fine for a couple months, but the messed up sway bar and end link geometry from the 1.5" drop caused my relatively new bushings to wear out prematurely and my front sway bar to rattle around. Of course, since I had just replaced them less than a year ago, I mistakenly ruled them out, and tried fixing other things.

The next thing I replaced was the front control arm bushings. They were definitely worn out, and do creak a bit since the rear bushing is just rubber being squashed between the control arm and the sub frame. That solved the creaking I had, but did nothing for the thud/rattle. These bushings could very well be your creak. You can actually test this one by getting under the car and having someone jack the wheels or rotors up and down, just make sure it is well supported on jack stands first, and don't raise wheel too high and lift the car off the stands.

I also replaced the right front wheel bearing, which even though it was completely shot, didn't solve any noises. As a last resort, I decided to pull off the end links and the noise was gone. Handling sucked but it was quiet.

So I replaced my front sway bar bushings again and am now on a quest to find/create quiet longer end links, which has so far been very expensive and unsuccessful. All the ball joints I've tried are noisy as hell. The thud/rattle is gone, but the joints I put together click and clack like an Underarmor commercial.

You can be pretty sure that if you hear creaking it is something rubber, which means a bushing. Sway bar bushings are first, then control arm, then trailing arm or lateral links, but I haven't heard anyone complain about them. Unless you see oil running down the side of your strut, I wouldn't mess with them. The springs aren't going to really go bad ever. They can rust through in salty areas, but that will take a lot of time and miles.

Well, good luck. If I ever get mine to be completely quiet again, I'll probably cry tears of joy.

LOL! Yea man I know what you mean.

Just to be clear, I'm well aware that our suspension is very noisy from the factory. Though something or many things are definitely ****** up because the noises I hear are as loud as the exhaust. Yudkib, I am by no means an expert on suspension either lol. That is why I am asking for help. Jdwk, I appreciate you sharing your experiences. I have been thinking it could very well be other bushings such as the control arms, and I do know that a company called 'Pedders' makes urethane replacements, but I can't afford to pay $100 for that right now.

Now that the weather is warming up, the noise has toned down a bit. Though it is still very noticeable and turns heads when I creak on down the road lol.

Just get new rubber ones. You should be able to find them locally, or you can order them from montgomery mazda for $36 IIRC. The urethane ones are nice, but probably not worth the $120 if money is tight.
