goodies ready

Got the goodies for the clutch install:

ACT StreetLite flywheel (apparently ProLite can cause the car to throw misfire codes), Exedy regular clutch, Kartboy short shifter kit + front & rear shifter bushings, a bunch of fluids and exhaust header gaskets. Also clutch fork, in case OEM fork is borked.

Also discovered a nasty in the engine bay (A/C idler pulley):

BTW, if someone wants to come help out, let me know... March 27th. We have 4 people already, incl. me, but may be fun to have a 5th for random help/tasks/conversation.

In other news, going on vacation to St Thomas for a week Saturday.

we made a few too many insurance claims in the past few years and my mother didnt want another one added on, but if he bails ill go the route of having my insurance track him down for me.

also, if i pick up those springs, i wont buy any other suspension parts until my bike is how i want it so the springs could maybe sit around for a bit before they go on
kyle, if you got hit there is no claim on your ins...they go after the other guy...it dosen't count against you

in other news...its' friday!!

woo woo friday! and spring break!

im going to call the guy throughout the weekend, if he doesnt respond to me ill be taking other measures starting monday. got a friend who is a branford cop so maybe he can help out with all this.

Morning all. Beautiful day yesterday in Kanata. Got the truck unloaded and the car off the trailer and dropped both off at UHaul.

Still sorting thru stuff trying to get organized. Sucks having a small garage after the 2 car. Got the garage mostly sorted out.

I prefer the performance snow tires over the regular ones. Been running Pirelli snows on 3 cars, the P5, Miata and the Focus wagon. Love them.

Looks like a great weekend weather wise, time to pull the snows off and get the bodykit back on.

But so what, you shouldn't be driving them in the snow by the time they hit half tread wear. Minimum effective wet tread depth is 4/32nds, minimum effective snow is 6/32nds. MS6-sized Blizzak WS starts out at 12/32nds tread. So when you hit 55% wear, when all seasons tread hits, you have 5.4/32nds left. At that time, you should be looking at getting new snows. Sure, you do lose the ice traction at that point, which is useful no matter the tread depth.
I know...but given the choice between driving on winter compound with 50% tread and all season compound with 50% tread, I'd rather be on the winter compound. It'll give me more grip on the cold pavement and probably help me get out of the driveway on a snowy day.

However, my WS-60s were like driving on pudding. Never buying regular snow tires again.
I really liked my Dunlop wintersports. No complaints. Relatively quiet at highway speeds but you knew they were snow tires below 10mph because they would hum as you came to a stop. Sidewall (up until this leaking tire) was pretty stiff too. I've had blizzaks in the past, not sure what model, and they felt like driving on jelly rolls.

TGIF NEPOC! Going to the eye dr this afternoon and thinking he'll prescribe me some anitbiotics. I have a chelazian...basically an untreated sty that is now a hard nodule in my lower eye lid and up until yesterday it hadn't bothered me. I've been having pain the last couple of days so he wants to see me again. Next week I see an occuplastic surgeon who will either treat it with a steroid or cut it out. Fun times!

That's my feeling too. The Kumho KW22s on my wifes car utilize a winter compound throughout and I've seriously thought about buying them for the P5 next season. I'd love to get a set of Nokians but can't see paying over $400 for 14" tires + m&b!

So my boss told me to take today off because I was out of country for 3 weeks plus I didn't get home until 2am.

So here is a quick recount from my departure of Canada:

-Leave the hotel around 10am to get to the flight... Hotel printer is out of ink and I can't get a receipt for my travel claim.
-Get to the airport, pull the bag out of the trunk and one of the wheels snaps off.
-Relatively easy way through check-in, customs, etc... Until I get to the US Customs part... The dude asked me if I have anything to declare or things I bought. My response: "Nope, everything here is too damned expensive." I made him laugh and was waived on through.
-Get off the plane in Atlanta to find my bag was the ONLY one on not to get on the plane. It was delivered today (more below).
-Went to start the MS6 which has been sitting for 3 weeks and the battery is dead... I mean so dead the dome lights wouldn't come on and locks wouldn't work.
-I get the car jumped and I have to take my friend home (30 mins out of the way) because his ride forgot it was last night and went drinking for St. Patty's Day.
-I got my luggage today to see a pamphlet inside saying my luggage was randomly searched according to TSA blah blah blah. I find my work laptop all misplaced inside.. Screen is cracked.

Did I mention I had today off?

You checked your laptop?!?!?!?!? That's a huge no-no. They even recommend against it!

It's not my first time flying with a laptop checked in baggage. I've flown quite a few times in my day. I had it in a separate hardcase in my checked luggage. This was a case of them checking through my baggage and not putting things back the way it was.

Either way, the laptop was a company hand-me-down while new ones were in order. I called the local IT guy at the office and had the screen fixed today with a bad laptop which had a good screen.

I explained all to my boss and IT support today and everything was understood.
