Trade in for a speed3?

Ok....so I REALLY want to get into a speed 3. I have about 13K left to pay on my current 2010 3. The dealership said that they would pay that off for me, and set me up in a 2010 speed3. My monthly payments will only change by 20/month.

I'm new to the trading in, dealership thing aside for when i bought my n/a 3 and that was an impulse buy. I'm really lost on what to do...

My other option is an RX8. offering 10K off it, it's a 2010. That would bring the price down to about the same as the speed3. If you had the option, what would you do?

You need to decide where your priorities are. One of the best handling cars Mazda has ever produced, or the brute force of a MS3. Personally, I'd take the MS3 due to some of the unfortunate characteristics of the RX-8. Oil consumption (normal), poor MPG, inconsistent quality of the apex seals, no power down low in the rpm range, and the fact that it can actually run badly if you don't warm it up completely every time you drive it. The MS3 is less tempermental, more practical, but it's a torque-steering, high-hp front-driver. All cars have a list of drawbacks and advantages. Which list suits you?

I too looked at both the rx8 and the speed 3 and I chose the speed 3 because in my opinion it's a funner car to drive and it fit my style a little better. I drive about 40 miles one way to work and I can average about 28mpg.

thanks for the replies. i'm set on the speed3 now since having 2 kids at home would make life easier. Plus it has more hp + torque to boot. not to mention up here, in winter, rwd is fail. And the aftermarket for a turbo motor is more fun to play with.

My car has just under 40K kms. Has the mods listed in my sig (which i know won't matter on a trade in). How much do you figure I should be getting from the dealer?

I could only guess that they would offer you between 14 and 16 thousand but I'm not a car salesman that was just a quick look on kbb.com

I had the same idea, i jumped into ms3 and i couldnt be happier, it is a hand full but full of fun. does fit 2 kids in the back better than a RX8 but its still tight.

I have had hot hatches alot and enjoy the smallness of them tho.

I put a CAI on and now it pretty much rips ur arms off, torque steer is always fun too!

Went and talked to my dealer today just out of curiosity. They offered me 15k with 0 down and it would raise my monthly payments from $380 to $445. Not too bad, but not worth the jump for me. Surprisingly, my insurance would only jump $8...Not bad

Edit: That was for a 2010 speed3 with 5,000 miles on it, not a new one

Yeah, but the problem was that they still wanted $25,000 for a used spd 3 with 5k miles and more body damage than my mz3 with 20k

i went to buy a second hand ms3 with 7k and 2 dented rims and they wanted 24k, the sales manager was a knob too, got all fronty... it was a chevy dealer, (they wanted to give me 250 for new tires even tho they retail at 160 each)

we told him to stuff it and walked into mazda and brought off the lot for 23..

They offered about 13 for mine, off the top of his head without really looking at it nor knowing the mileage. I had to refinance due to unforseen circumstances and that rose my payments from 375 to 410. If I went to the speed3 my payments would go up to 425 and insurance would increase by $10/year...so, not so shabby. Just waiting to get one in. They said they only get a "couple" in per year. no such thing as a 2009 or earlier at these dealerships...they go FAST. So they are bringing in ONE in about 3 weeks....Best believe i'm going for a run

Honestly, if they are willing to pay off your current car and finance you with only a $20 a month bump, I would say go for it. That is my opinion. I think the extra 100hp is worth $20 a month. As far as insurance, it shouldnt be more than $10 a month increase. So for $30 more a month, you cant go wrong. As far as for the RX-8 vs the Speed3, I would never own an RX-8. Id much rather have a 2001 S2000 over and 2010 RX8 anyday of the week. But for the Speed3, the loss of rwd is a big one. But the Speed3 is an amazing car, roomy, and fast for the money. And with the COBB AP looming on the horizon, there will soon be a lot of fun to be had by the community.

You keep talkin about JUST $20 a month more but for How many Years?
How many years have you been paying?
Dealerships always try and sell the monthly payment!! Your best bet is to try and sell your car yourself for as much of the bluebook as possible and put money down on a new car!!!!
I have purchase 17 cars in my lifetime and to a tee I was put into a much worse financial position that I regreted later on every time I traded in to a dealer.
BE PATIENT! Do some detailing and sdvertising, YOU MIGHT BE SURPRISED!

Rotary is fun but you have to know what you're doing and it's a good amount of maintenance. I hate RX8s though. I'm a die hard rotorhead but I don't like RX8 at all. If it came stock with a Cosmo 20B-TT it would be worth it, but that PU55Y 13B Renny? No thank you. The MS3 is mad fun. When your day sucks, and people piss you off, you drop the DSC and roast some tires. I was a Honda nut for years until i went rotary and got an MS3 for a DD. No FWD i've ever driven is as much fun as an MS3

^^^I also agree. I owned a 2000 Civic Si. It was fun. And I was looking for a 2010 Tafetta white Civic Si when I came across the idea of a Mazda. The thought of the MX3 and 323, and older cars with cheap interiors and horrible exterior design had kept me from really looking into the Mazda line up. But with the new interiors, new exteriors and an almost more true to the cause fan base, Mazda pulled me in. This MS3 has been one of the funnest cars front or rear wheel drive I have ever driven. Now that my S2000 is gone, I am really really excited to autocross the MS3 this year.
