mp3 ecu in a protege5?

eh moving to canada is pretty stressful but hopefully it will lead to a better job. i'm going to have to start checking junk yards for an mp3 ecu cause it's gotta be cheaper than $150 - 250

so does it retard timming or it advances it? i thought it wolud be retarding so it would create more compression before spark so that would be why we should use premium gas.

Good luck with that one man. Only 1500 of those cars ever built. The cheapest I've ever seen are the reflashed ECU's. Before the reflashes were even available, the price was crazy.

If I remember correctly, the timing is advanced. The ECU will pull the timing back if detonation is detected (knock sensor) when using lower octane fuel. Octane being the measurment of the resistance to detonate. Higher octane, less potential for detonation.

the sportronic is like the trans-sexual of trannies! lol.

it tries so hard to be something it isnt. in the end, it still robs you of so much power, even if you can shift when you want.

You got married bro? Didn't know that! Congrats! Is it the girl I met when i was there?

Hahahaha. Well... could be worse. You could be living in Beijing, and not able to drive back across the border.

Glad to hear you guys got married. She was very nice.

Not everyone has aspirations of blowing up their welded LSD, bending shift forks or sheering off gear teeth and the FSDE is about in the same boat trying to be something it can't be without spending another 10k. Let's keep things in perspective.........

i dont think it was his point. He simply said tiptronic was sheit(and probably meant it wasnt more than a normal auto). My manual tranmission was all good for me...and it didnt try to be more than a manual tranny.

lol
i have a tiptronic in my p5. it makes having an auto bearable.
i was just having fun with the word tranny.
no aspirations of being a msp owner at all.

It's all good, just funnin with the s***...(while feeling left out on a few helpful goodies because of the sportauto). I chose mine on purpose for commuting so I just have to deal wid the good and bad of my choice, lol. Not so sure I'd be down with the tradeoff of higher priced gas for what I'd be gettin out of it if I did have the manual. I'd most likely be trying to go with some plug n play ecu replacement instead of the mp3 ecu but it is a quick cost effective first step IMO.
