The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Better hurry! Pablo just went their today and got a set for himself...... They are going fast!

I really don't know what tires to get for next year's track season. Thinking about Hankook Ventus RS-3,but I really don't know. I see alot of people with Dunlop Direzza Star Specs too. Any thoughts or opinions are welcome. The STX min tire tread rating is 140.

Looks like I'm a little late to the game, but I'll reply anyway.

Just make sure you're comparing apples to apples here. Sure the KLZE may be a performance engine, but it's "pedestrian" counterpart, the KLDE was not. A truer comparison would be the KLZE to the FSZE (I'm noticing a trend here). Also, I recall the KLZE's weren't boost friendly (oddly enough, neither were the FSZE's) due to higher compression (10:1 I believe). If you compare KLDE to FSDE you'll realize that neither one is really any better than the other, except the KL has two more pistons and therefore makes more power.

Not ragging on the KL's, just saying...

Honestly, I can't disagree more, haha. I'm not talking about the ZE. Evan is getting a ZE, I don't plan on it. I will be getting a DE block and rebuilding it. No reason to get a ZE when I plan on replacing the internals that make the ZE different, anyways. I think you need to look into it more before you say that the fs is equal to the kl. It's not. The K series motors were designed with performance in mind. The F series were just another motor. The FS-DE at least had oil squirters added but that's about it.

Here's a good read for you.
http://www.tsentraal.ee/mx6/engine/SAE920677.htm

And the ONLY reason people say the ZE's aren't "boost friendly" is due to the higher compression and the overlap in the cams. The high compression doesn't matter, and the overlap can be tuned out, or you can just get different cams. High compression and boost can be used together to achieve equal power with less boost. Meth and a good tune make it all good. (2thumbs)

I know a lot of people make a big deal out of the KLZE not being suitable for boost because of the higher compression, but in all honesty, I think it's more just from people talking about "what they've heard." I realize this statement is hypocritical, since I haven't done it myself, but many members on ProbeTalk have turbo ZE's and they put down a semi-outrageous amount of power on very little boost. Fastest95PGT (on mx6.com) has numbers in his sig, 317whp @ 8.5psi / 275whp @ 5.5psi. I haven't seen his sheets, but there are a number of guys with turbo ZE's putting down similar numbers.

Just think, the MS3 is around 9.5-9.7 compression ratio, running 15.5 psi from the factory, and I'm sure Mazda expects it to last that way for quite a while. The ZE is 10.1-1 iirc off hand, so that's really not far off. It's all in the tune.

^You're 100% correct.

For the price, Star Specs.

Christmas came early!!

I talked my parents into buying my presents early! So I bought some all-season floor mats (much needed) and the Corksport Power Series SRI. The SRI also come with the Turbo Inlet too :) Can't wait to finally hear my turbo haha!! I love the fact that I could customize the colors of everything on the intake. Silicone Color: Red, MAF Color: Black, Filter Color: Red, Turbo Inlet Pipe: Powder Coated Black.

Their site is really nice, once you choose all your colors, it shows a picture of what it will look like:

Nice buy! It will be a good quality product for sure. I like the black/red...my pipes are polished and blue couplers, although eventually I'm gonna see if I can just get new red couplers from them. I've got the whole black/red thing going on ya know? except for my winter wheels! Good luck with the install, and be excited you get to see your turbo in the raw before you pop on the inlet pipe!

Nice intake, Evan. I really like CorkSport. They make good products and aren't overpriced. I installed a CorkSPort SAI on my dads 2010 Mazda3 and everything looked really good. I'm eager to hear how she sounds and performs. :)
Dude...see sig...of course you've never been in my car and probably never really heard it...

The Star Specs seem to reign supreme. This summer I will be buying Hankook Ventus V12 or whatever...235/40/18...I know your car is a lil different, but thought I'd share...hankooks are slightly cheaper and 2nd best...I also need some life/longevity out of them

Tinkerbell!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is totally cute :)
Didn't know we were dressing up this year? Oh, and you are just asking for this:

Wow, that's a great read. It's obvious Mazda put a great deal of effort into the K series engines, especially in the departments of responsiveness, high end power, light weight, and sound. And that's what the motor is known for. I just re-read tonight that while they'd had great success with their other 4 cylinder engines, B6, BP, BPT, BPD, etc, they designed the FS for fuel economy because they didn't want it to steal the KL's thunder. I can't really blame them..

"The I4 is a venerable engine. Believe it or not, when it came out, it was a powerful little engine, though you might laugh at it’s 118hp versus the likes of GS-R’s 170hp. The I4 were never made to compete with cars such as the GSR or a Prelude and it can’t. The I4 was created for the budget minded, the ones who want 30mpg and doesn’t care about horsepower numbers. Mazda I4 program has been long in the running and has churned out some amazing engine (BPT, BPD…) but it was decided that the Mx-6 would not benefit from these venerable engine due to the revolutionary V6 already being offered. And just as the KL-03 has a powerful twin in the KL-ZE, so does our FS-02. In 1997, Mazda Motor Corporation, on the verge of bankruptcy decided to create a new series of I4 engines. They adapted the VRIS into the I4 through a system called the VCIS. Thus the FS-ZE was born, making well over 170hp in the raw stage and ending up with 170hp after emission standards toned them down."

I'm not sure about the validity of this claim: "This engine [FSZE] is known to produce well over 300hp+ in racing form."

Drove to Team Sahlen's shop yesterday. Picked up two sets of Continentals for next year! So excited! Seats are definitely going in over the winter. I slide around as it is.

should of had you grab my set

Dollar for dollar the star specs are a great tire, so are the Kumho XS's...I would go with one or the other, IMHO.

im thinking of doing a "guido" from jersey shore, but at the same time making fun of them by going oompa loompa orange and some other things like that haha or going as Waldo (from the "where's waldo?" books growing up) any thoughts haha

That's what I did. It worked well enough.

Thems some great halloween costumes, Chipmunk, Phen and MonkeyAss.

Levi, is that quote from that Chris Rock movie? When he comes out all dressed like an old school golfer?

I handed out candy last night at home. It was pretty cool. Last year was better though. There weren't any good costumes or MILFS this year. And some cat showed up as a Colombian...
