The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Nice slide, did she give a thmbs up back?

Watching D1 drifting on speed, i just don't get it. The cars have so much done to them just to go sideways around a turn, I'm all for a cool power slide but is all that modifacation really needed? I don't get drifting i guess

Drifting is different than power sliding

Drifting is a spectacle. There's no reason to use good tires on the drive wheels like they do. I remember a Sport Compact Car article that was talking about the introduction to drifting in the States. The dude had a nice looking 240sx with some nice modifications done to it for drift. Front wheels: 17x7" BBS knockoffs. Rear Wheels: 15x7" BBS knockoffs. Reason being that tires were easier to find at the junk yard cheap in 15" sizes. After all... you're only going to burn them off...

(lol2)

Nice save.
Thanks man. It was a fun weekend. There was a Ferrari 458, and a Switzer P800 Nissan GTR in my group. I passed the GTR in the rain, made my weekend. I guess 800hp does you no good when you cant put it down. On the other hand, when the 458 blew by me on the back straight, that was awesome too. What a sound.

Do you have to pay to ride along, or can you just go up and ask for passenger time?

The instructors are always willing to give rides. It is free to get in/ride. Just bring your helmet. I think it helps build interest in the club(Northern Ohio Region Porsche Club of America). The let you run any brand car, without becoming a member in the club. If you drive it cost money of course.

Yeah, Rachelle told me how much it costs. i think I'll just go for rides.

:( I started the 626 up for the first time in a few days because I haven't been driving it after I found out about the torn CV boot and haven't fixed that yet. I've got stock motor mounts, but it was vibrating a lot inside the cabin, and the idle sounded really lumpy and it was just not happy. The worst part was that it was just dumping burnt oil out the exhaust, it smelled straight like my leaf blower, like a 4 cycle... I figured it just needed to be driven, so I took it around the block a bit and got it up to running temperature, not wanting to go on a big drive and damage the unprotected CV joint. I get back to the house and pull in the garage and it fills it up with smoke. I smelled the exhaust to make sure and almost choked because there was so much oil in it.. I guess it could be something else, because it was a little more like grey smoke (hard to tell at night), but I don't get how it went from being fine like 3 days ago when I started it up until today when it's taking a crap. I'm at 84k frickin miles, wut da H?!

This is when everyone will simply mock you for having an FS-DE...

That is very strange though... But then again, Kevin's 13b took a crap when I flushed the coolant so who knows. Did you look under the hood and see anything yet?

It's not like I wanted an FS.. I dunno, it may be time for swap sooner than I thought..

I'll have to check it out under the hood and maybe do a compression check.

Well like I said yesterday, I wish I had my swap in and you could have my FS-DE, one of the last remaining strong motors that doesn't burn oil. (knock on wood).

If you need any help or anything, just let me know. Here at Lewis Motorsports we strive for customer satisfaction. ;)

Haha, I love LMS! Five stars!! We should make vinyl cutouts or something.

Anyway, I dunno, if I'm gonna swap it, I might as well put in a KL, right? I'm gonna do a compression check and see if I can locate what's up.. It hasn't done this before.

What are the chances I can get a single 'Mazdaspeed' coilover from somewhere? I don't need the whole kit, just the driver front unit--the entire coilover unit for the driver front. From what I understand, neither Mazda nor KW (the manufacturer) will send out replacements...

Any luck on ebay, or perhaps from a member that upgraded? Are you having problems already? It's not covered in the warranty?

no it's aftermarket...a guy I know is selling 3 units because one broke...if I can find a replacement, I'm golden on getting a cheap set of coilovers

How bad did it break? If it's simply "blown out" a rebuild is often cheaper than buying a new unit. You might try to contact KW and explain the situation, only act like you're the original buyer. ;)

Although, it's likely that the seller has already tried this, unless he's lazy, inept, etc.

The deal is that I had them installed for about 30K miles and they worked great. But on the left front, the tab where the ARB link attaches broke and fractured the shock tube. There is shock fluid leaking a little bit around where the tab was welded to the tube. I tracked the problem down to poor geometry with the Hotchkiss ARB and AWR ARB links. I talked to Mazda and KW, the manufacturer of these for Mazda, and they don't offer replacement parts . Anyway everything except the left front shock is in good condition; that one is dead and unlikely to be reparable. The spring and mounts are fine. The rear pair is certainly usable.

This is straight from the dude. They have a lot of miles, but like I said, if I can find replacement--I can probably work a deal that is super cheap because obviously these aren't doing him any good---he can't sell them unless someone is looking to slam a 3-wheeler or pull a miracle like I am..
