Just throw a LS1 in it and be done with it.
Fair enough. Perhaps bulletproof is the wrong wordage. I want to keep the MSP but have a "new" car. This is my compromise. Newer Mazda's just look too goofy and I can't bear to see the MSP go to someone who won't appreciate it.
Figures you'd say that about the Chevy.... perhaps I should change the title to "Chevy LS" instead?
There are reasons miatas and 240s are drifters, just like there are reasons why no protege is real "famous"
What's with all the bashing? Go for it, haters gonna hate bro! Check car-part.com,quite a few engines, transmissions etc for sale. Don't forget to make a progress thread!
no hate here... just acting as a sounding board for dale, because in my experience he blurts things out as plans before he's really thought them through.
No offense Carl, but this effects you as a person how?
...I definitely don't want much problems but then again I'm in a Mazda and I'm pretty sure Mazda is Japanese for "This s***'s gonna break tomorrow."
series chevy V8s (LS engines) are arguably one of the best engines made in recent history.
I say if you are going to have "professionals" do it then get a KLG4 and run it how its meant to be as far as OBD-II. Build it for boost, and then slap on a nice 60trim t3 and call it a day, dont forget at least a welded MSP lsd in the mx6 trans. If you choose to do the work. and don't like wiring go KLDE or KLZE in OBDI form still a bit of wiring but not A LOT. If you go OBDI get the KLZE, build it for lower compression, swap to the DE springs and retainers and boost the **** out of it. There are stories that the DE heads flow better, but the ze has proven to be quite good with boost when it comes to intake manifold and head design due to the larger ports and runners. Just my .02 on the topic. There are a few things I would hev done differently for my swap if I were planning it right now.
Sounds good, im no expert, since i am learning all the time with this motor and the best combo of the K-series to make the most power in certain forms...However, I do have the hands-on experience and kept a good record of all the things needed to make it work. Planning, and then buying everything needed, and making sure you cover your bases with general maintenance items will only make things easier. Too many of my friends have tried to buy as they went with a swap. It was frustrating and too longer. I spent 10months planning and buying, kept everything in my storage unit(i personally dont have a garage) and worked on the motor getting it all ready before it went into the car, then in a weekend we had the old 1.8l out and the 2.5 in and within the next week it was on the road.
Shoot me a PM if you have any questions I'm always glad to help out. And I'm glad the KL is spreading over here, only good things can come from this.
