Fair enough. Perhaps bulletproof is the wrong wordage. I want to keep the MSP but have a "new" car. This is my compromise. Newer Mazda's just look too goofy and I can't bear to see the MSP go to someone who won't appreciate it.

Figures you'd say that about the Chevy.... perhaps I should change the title to "Chevy LS" instead?

yeah, you're really cool with you're swapped protege for mega unique points. lololololol

There are reasons miatas and 240s are drifters, just like there are reasons why no protege is real "famous"

if you want a new MSP, you're a lot better off just going through and replacing all the potential wear items than doing some crazy swap. Even taking the FS you have, forging it, going through the suspension bushings etc and whatnot would result in one very nice ride.

miatas are famous drifters? huh... don't see too many of those on the D1 circuit, least not that I've noticed.

poser.

What's with all the bashing? Go for it, haters gonna hate bro! Check car-part.com,quite a few engines, transmissions etc for sale. Don't forget to make a progress thread!

no hate here... just acting as a sounding board for dale, because in my experience he blurts things out as plans before he's really thought them through.

If we're comparing proteges at being good at anything to miatas being good at anything, I see more active drifting miatas than proteges in anything, jerkoff.

No offense Carl, but this effects you as a person how?

it doesn't. just making sure his plans match up with his goals for the car. he's changed his mind many times on what he plans to do for transportation when he gets back from deployment many times already. informed decisions > uninformed.

KrayzieFox: I own one of those too. lol

Wagon: No hard feelings toward you man. I appreciate you looking out. I'm pretty set in this choice as it's something that's been on my mind since I bought the car. Truthfully, I don't think I could ever sell the MSP no matter how dead set I was.

series chevy V8s (LS engines) are arguably one of the best engines made in recent history.

As far as power production, then I agree, but as far as reliability, no, they aren't. They aren't even in the same ballpark as "the best" when it comes to those terms.

i dont know much about the mazda 6 v6 but i dont think it works without major modification. the kl however i know a little about because i am doin the swap as we speak. if you want a newer one go with one from a millenia or 626. it doesnt take too much modification though it is not a 1 day project. however if you are giving it to a shop it will be quicker. do your research mx6.com, probetalk.com, and performanceprobe.com help alot as does http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123749499-Slotege-KLZE-Swap-Thread this thread.

Thanks Bullshark. That's some very handy advice. Yeah, I think the Mazda6 V6 just some odd idea I had. KL is definitely the way I'm going with it.

I say if you are going to have "professionals" do it then get a KLG4 and run it how its meant to be as far as OBD-II. Build it for boost, and then slap on a nice 60trim t3 and call it a day, dont forget at least a welded MSP lsd in the mx6 trans. If you choose to do the work. and don't like wiring go KLDE or KLZE in OBDI form still a bit of wiring but not A LOT. If you go OBDI get the KLZE, build it for lower compression, swap to the DE springs and retainers and boost the **** out of it. There are stories that the DE heads flow better, but the ze has proven to be quite good with boost when it comes to intake manifold and head design due to the larger ports and runners. Just my .02 on the topic. There are a few things I would hev done differently for my swap if I were planning it right now.

You seem pretty informed. I'm listening. I might PM you here in a bit just to get more information.

I'm going to begin the parts ordering probably the first of the year. That way all the s*** will be in and waiting for me by June/July. That way it's also not once gihugic bill.

Sounds good, im no expert, since i am learning all the time with this motor and the best combo of the K-series to make the most power in certain forms...However, I do have the hands-on experience and kept a good record of all the things needed to make it work. Planning, and then buying everything needed, and making sure you cover your bases with general maintenance items will only make things easier. Too many of my friends have tried to buy as they went with a swap. It was frustrating and too longer. I spent 10months planning and buying, kept everything in my storage unit(i personally dont have a garage) and worked on the motor getting it all ready before it went into the car, then in a weekend we had the old 1.8l out and the 2.5 in and within the next week it was on the road.

Shoot me a PM if you have any questions I'm always glad to help out. And I'm glad the KL is spreading over here, only good things can come from this.

Yeah, only good things. Well I have a garage luckily and also about 9.5 months left to begin the part hunt and what-not. I'm still leaning heavily on letting a shop do the motor/tranny because I'm no expert and I'd like the least amount of problems to arise. They claim they can find the engine but I'd like to have alternate means of acquiring one just in case.

I'll shoot you a PM when it's not 0145 my time... Thanks again!
