does the protege and protege 5 share the same front end?

fenders, bumper, headlights, hood??

i'm almost positive it is, but i just want to be 100% sure.

Yes. However, there is a different bumper support between regular Proteges and the MSP/MP3/P5 iirc.

No. Headlights and bumper are different.

Hood and fenders are interchangeable (but some P5s after 2002 started with clear side markers too).

Wasn't there a big discussion about how the 2001-up sedan and P5 lights are exactly the same on the outside, but had different innards?

basically i'm looking into a set of headlights for my p5, and there aren't many choices, but if i look for regular protege lights my options open up.

msp & mp3 sure...but does the reg sedan have the same lights? i thought not?

They fit just fine (shrug)

I have the sedan (MSP) front end. The headlamps would be aluminum or metal coat bezel. Everything lines up fine, no gaps etc.

The hoods are interchangeable, the fenders will work as long as you use the MSP/MP3 iirc. You can use a sedan bumper on the P5 with no issue (bumper support) but I dont think you can put a P5 bumper on a sedan (the sedan support is shorter I think)

The headlamps work just fine, if you dont get a sedan wiring harness you dont have high beams. Havent had high beams for 3 years. I just run an HID kit (you can always go bi xenon if you want high beams)

You can also just wire the high beam to the existing harness if you really want high beams. I know a couple of people that have done that.

okay so then it's settled.... i can run sedan headlights on the p5.

do they use different bulbs? is that why you need to re-wire the harness?
can i not just pull out the stock.... put in the new ones, and slap everything (bulbs) back in?

No, the P5 uses H4 bulbs for the low beams, the sedan uses H7. It's a different back holding it into place. There's a write up somewhere on here where someone used a H4 bulb but just attached an H7 back and it worked like a charm. They both use the same plug, so it's not difficult.

You only need to rewire the harness if you want the high beams to work. The P5 headlights have a separate bulb for low and high beams, while the sedan uses the same bulb for both the high and low beams.

ok so which of the p5, msp or mp3 front bumper fit the 03 protege lx? sorry newbster question. insterested in swapping the front :)

Other way around. P5 uses the H7 for the low beam and 9005 or 9006 (forget which) for highs.
