The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Congrats Phen! That sounds like a good opportunity!

So, I'm looking at a set of wheels (hushhush on type) over on another forum. The problem is they are silver. But the guy is pretty much willing to powdercoat them before shipping on the cheap. He must get a shipping discount from Fedex as well because 4 20 pound boxes are only costing 81 dollars from Arizona to here. He seems pretty cool and negotiation is laid back at this point. I'd like to forward a message from him he sent me via pm on this other site:

If anyone is interested, maybe he will cut us both a deal on pc (if you want them a different color than oem) and shipping....maybe it would be cheaper to send all 8 wheels to one spot and then we can go from there.....I dunno just wanted to throw it out there....I don't know what he is asking for the Mx5 wheels.....I'll find out

They'd look nice on a 3 or protege!

for protege's you need a spacer for the front wheel (like 3mm), if he is selling them super cheap i'd be interested but i'm sure he's not going as low as i can afford right now. I had a set of oem p5 wheels w/ tires shipped to me from texas and shipping was around $22 per wheel

oh well... after looking into it they arent much lighter than the ms6's are so it wouldnt be much of a gain....

ehhhh.....I guess I will say because I am super pumped. Storytime folks:

Once I actually had enough funds, I narrowed down my choice of wheels to either black enkei RPF1 or black OZ Ultraleggera. I like the OZ style better, but like the weight of the Enkei better.

I have searched over 5 or 6 different forums (EVO, STi, RX8, etc...) trying to find a decent priced set of either--the problem was no one wanted to ship. I have been in contact with a guy on Rx8 club about a set of silver OZ's which he was willing to powdercoat black for me before shipping. It would have been just over $1000 for those...He told me "someone else is interested as well because he posted on a Subaru forum".

So I thought he was bullshitting, so I googled 'FS OZ Ultraleggera Subaru' and the first hit was a set of freshly posted OZ Ultra's--$700 with tires (225/35/18...ehhh) on iwsti. I instantly called dibs and Pm'd him. He immediately offered $750 shipped, tires and all.

Now the bad part. They are beat up pretty rough. One has curb rash 50% around. the other has chips on one spoke. one has 25% curb rash. the fourth and last wheel is good. The tires are goodyear eagle f1 and look like they have plenty of life left. Anyways, you can see them if you would like and tell me if I screwed up or not:

Now I am lookign at lug nuts and have a few questions: 12x1.5 right? Any difference whether I go open or closed? I am looking at these right now:

well.......SU open ended Muteki Lugs for around $70

Although I want cheaper. if anyone has a link to cheaper lugs, please let me know. I am sort of new to this..... Thanks!

I prefer closed lugs. Open ended lugs get grimy since they catch all the dirt & brake dust in them. I picked up my closed ended Muteki lugs off of ebay for $55, IIRC. That was less than 2 months ago.

Good deal, James! I would say don't PC them, just touch them up with some paint when you receive them. If you get them powder coated, they will have to remove the tires and if they do it right, sandblast the wheels then PC them. Or if they just poweder coat over the exsisting paint, they will have an orange peel finish. It's how PC comes out over already painted parts.

They don't look nearly as bad as the description, I was expecting much worse. The seller needs to learn how to drive around the curbs though. haha

I just bought black muteki closed lugs as well...I hope they work, another $53... Now I just need to find the red OZ Racing decals to put on the rim...they are not big, but I want to really accentuate my black/red theme with a hint of red on the wheels

Good call on the closed end lug nuts. I'm with Steve on this one, open ended lug nuts look cool but they will rust your lugs in the winter.

Any idea if you'll have the wheels in time for us to see them at Mid-Ohio next weekend?
