The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Do you mean "ever"? And rarely as far as I know in Ohio. Last year there was a the big BBQ at Phens house and a Columbus meet a week or two later. That's about it.

I did know if there were any statewide meets like some other C.C. do. I'd be good with a mohican run since i missed the one early this year.

Ok folks. Figured I'd announce this now, since the ball has begun rolling...

It looks like I may be going to China for work. Beijing to be exact. All details are not finalized yet, but it looks like it will be for 6 to 12 months. I'll find out soon enough.

That's awesome. Should be a great experience. Do you like to travel?

Well, I've done a ton of traveling to meets, events and races over the last 3.5 years. I like doing that. International is all new to me.

Yeah, I mean... all of the travel I did around here was for Mazda things where I'd meet new people and see new things. The way I look at it, I'll just be multiplying it by...a lot.

i like that they took over 102.5...comes in better on my radios

i also like 106.7 now that it changed to "gen x radio"...i find it hilarious what they play on that station...sir mix a lot followed by r.e.m., etc

I about crapped a brick one day when I turned it on to find 50 cent playing followed by some craptastic pop/dance song. CD101/102.5 is the only local station I listen to unless I am listen to OSU sports.

Phen, I hope you like Chinese food. Geez, I was in China, including Beijing, for around 16 days and I swore I'd never eat that food again. I can't imagine being there for months... My family and I were sooo relieved to find a Dutch restaurant in Tibet, which was the closest thing we'd had to normal food the entire time that we were there. Yak burgers never tasted so good!

Lauri and I discussed that last night on the way home. I said we could do a fun run after the Hyperdrive @ MId-Ohio, as that would kill a couple of hours and then people could head back to Mid-Ohio for the cookout and beer....

Just a thought, we are alos going to look to add some additional roads to make it a longer....

That sounds like a good plan. And that way the cats that don't get to run the track at least get to drive the Fun Run.

I just figured they asked Phen to go to China because he looks Chinese. (rei)

Congrats Phen! That sounds like a good opportunity!

So, I'm looking at a set of wheels (hushhush on type) over on another forum. The problem is they are silver. But the guy is pretty much willing to powdercoat them before shipping on the cheap. He must get a shipping discount from Fedex as well because 4 20 pound boxes are only costing 81 dollars from Arizona to here. He seems pretty cool and negotiation is laid back at this point. I'd like to forward a message from him he sent me via pm on this other site:

I also have the 17x7, 55et OE MX-5 wheels if any of your other Mazda 3 friends might be looking for a set of these? They might get coated too. (?)

If anyone is interested, maybe he will cut us both a deal on pc (if you want them a different color than oem) and shipping....maybe it would be cheaper to send all 8 wheels to one spot and then we can go from there.....I dunno just wanted to throw it out there....I don't know what he is asking for the Mx5 wheels.....I'll find out

They'd look nice on a 3 or protege!

Hahaha. Awesome. I had a metric butt ton of Chinese today so it's Pepto Pink.

I think he is ready congrats phen.

Hey Phen..... You know my stance on the whole situation. I know quite a few phrases in Chinese for getting around and I can give you some great ideas on how to learn the language.

I was attempting to learn Korean while I was stationed in Guam because it was a very prevalent language in the area. I started slow and managed to learn enough to get by which helped me when I actually visited South Korea during my Navy career.

While I was in Hong Kong and Macau, I definitely had a share of the Chinese language and culture. A lot of the people I met were eager to learn from me as well as teach me some of their language/culture. If you meet the right people, you'll have a good time and work will be easy. I wish I could join you.

Does your work need an experienced electronics tech? Haha j/k

Meant to say congrats! I have had friends go and say it is an amazing place to be. Things have really changed over there during the last few years.

Enjoy!

Aren't all MX5 wheels 4-lug? But thanks for throwing it out there, James. Maybe Wes (Princesomethingorother) will take you up on that deal.

ps- check your PM's, James.

Thanks everyone!

Evan, 3rd gen Miatas are 5 lug. They share a chassis and suspension with RX8's...
