What have you done to your P5 today?

Evo cf hood is finally getting painted 22v to match but I'm getting rid of the car anyone wanna buy the hood? :)

Finally got the tires properly balanced... if anyone's ever in Knoxville and needs to find a shop where the techs know what they're doing, I'd recommend Best One Tire. I won't post the name of the shop that screwed up the balance (twice)... you'll have to PM me for that.

Anyway, the Star Specs are an unbelievable improvement over my all-season Generals, crazy amounts of grip. Rain is a white knuckle experience, though.(nailbyt)

^ I would much rather see the name of the shop, that screwed it up twice, out there that keeping that a secret.

Got a call saying that the p5 needs a new hatch and some panels, maybe even some frame damage, will hear about that maybe tomorrow. Until then I'm in an 09 Impreza Hatch

not really... while the interior is nice, it's the base 170bhp model with no turbo... i think i'll be happy with my 5spd when i get it back over this 4spd shiftronic

I was actually torn as to whether or not I should mention the name of the shop here. In the end, I decided that I didn't want to put the forums in a bad light or leave them open to any form of legal recourse (unlikely but probably not unheard of). For what it's worth, the shop is listed as an installer on Tirerack and I will eventually get around to rating them there and writing a review. I may also, for the benefit of the shop, tell them that another local shop fixed what they couldn't seem to and recommend that they reanalyze their procedures. They were polite throughout the process and attempted to be helpful, including double-checking their work for free on the next business day.

Really?

Supposedly they rate on the higher end for wet weather.. Wonder if they are worse than Azenis? :(

Well, the only serious rain I've experienced in them so far was coming back from having them mounted - not the best circumstances. They do seem just fine on wet roads (very good actually), but hit even a little bit of standing water and you get that fantastic floaty feeling. All tires have their limits of course, a function of puddle depth and the car's speed, and I knew going into it that these tires would have a much lower limit than my all-seasons, but I felt it was still worth mentioning. Again, first high-performance tires I've ever owned; for all I know, the hydroplaning resistance could be phenomenal by comparison.

Star Specs are affordable track tires, lol. From what I've heard, they are just ok in the rain; not great, not terrible either.

Well I've been running Azenis. I like them, except for in HEAVY rain. They did ok until they got really low in tread. I need new tires and all the reviews I've read on the Star Spec have been decent.. Im not a fan of Dunlop but I figured I'd give them a chance (shrug)

All tires get sketchy in heavy rain when they are low in tread... (gossip)

So yes... My P5 has a neat creak / groaning noise that is quite loud coming from driver's front suspension. I'm thinking a ball joint based on when it makes noise. Thoughts?

When you're driving on the highway and you go around curves, does it feel like the steering wheel kinda twitches/flops over (it's subtle but you'd notice it) in the middle of the curve? If so, ball joint/steering knuckle.

The plan is to use them daily up to around 500 miles to make sure they're properly broken in, then use them only for autocross, rides, and meets/shows. In reality, I'll probably keep them on far more often than that out of laziness and because they're so much better than the Generals.

No abnormal feeling at all. I had ball joint issues with my VW's back in the day, so that's the feeling I expected. I think my ball joint boot got ripped last time I replaced the drivers side wheel bearing, so I'm wondering if the grease may have seeped out and now it's dry and hating life.
