Here are a few somewhat recent photographs of my Hyperblack Motegi SP-10 wheels.

The wheels are 18x8 +40 and in the photos at the bottom I am using the stock 215/45/18 Bridgestones. They seemed to work without rubbing at the time, but two weeks later, the wheels were stolen:

After dealing with insurance, I got the car sent to a body shop on a flatbed to get the wheels replaced, and to fix any other damage that occurred during the theft:

After all was said and done (which I am still having a slight wheel shake at 50-65 mph) I got the front bumper repainted, the side skirts repainted, the rear suspension rust protected, new wheels, new TPMS, and new tires (Sumitomo HTR ZIII 235/40/18).

In the end the car looks better than it did before the wheels were stolen, but the tires are rubbing now, even with the fenders rolled. I am on stock suspension at the moment, so I will need to either pound flat that stupid area where the bumper meets the fender or dial in some negative camber. I would prefer to do the camber as it will help in handling. Hopefully it will not negatively impact tire wear too much.

So that's my story. Here are the photos:

I would have scoured bone yards for 4 spares, bobo wheels....you name it before I'd let them drag my car up a flat bed. OOOOF!

Not really. I was laughing a bit when I first saw the car. Kind of funny to see the car with its ass in the air and nose on the ground. I knew insurance would take care of me, and they did. The driver's side of my front bumper was all scratched to hell from some jackass pulling into a parking spot in front of me, so that is all fixed now. Like I said, the car looks better now than it did before the wheels were stolen.

really sorry to hear that, glad you in good sprits over it... Must of been some strong thick bricks to have only 2 of them hold the car up. Thank god they didnt ripple the body panels from the weight.

Did you get the same wheels to put back on the car? or doing something different?

damn! I can't believe you let them just drag your car on to the flat bed! I'm suprised the bottom of your car didn't sustain more damage.

I explained the situation on m3f.com but I will tell it again. The flat bed buy was actually very gentle with the car when he was getting it up there. Obviously you cant get the car up without a little pulling, but he didn't just attach the chains and drag her up. He lifted the front off the ground and balanced the car on the blocks. Slid the flat bed under the car, lifted, then made adjustments. The blocks were moved back, the car was lifted more, the flat bed was slid underneath more, lifted, adjusted the blocks, etc, etc, etc. In the end the car was resting on the front rotors and the rear lower control arms. Very little dragging, but like I mentioned in the original post, the rear suspension did get some scrapes on the bottom, and the body shop rustproofed it all and refinished it.

I went with the same wheels as I only had these on the car for a couple weeks before they were stolen, but I went with Sumitomo HTR ZIII 235/40/18 tires instead of replacing with the stock 'stones. After about 1000 miles on the tires, the small wobble of imbalance I was feeling is gone and the car drives smoothly again. Nothing wrong with the brakes, no steering realignment needed. I do need to get the camber adjusted in the rear to remove the slight rubbing I have, but other than the the car is back to its old self.

Where did you get those rims? I really like them and I've been looking for a set for my MGM for summer.

Good for you that you took things relatively lightly. I'd be curious to see if you see somebody in the next couple of weeks rolling around town with your wheels. I would also watch craig'slist and such. You'd be amazed how much common sense thieves lack.

Back in 2004-05, there was a "gang" of dudes stealing STI's, tearing them down, and selling parts on ebay. Needless to say, it didnt take long for people to figure out where the shop was, and how they got the parts.
