Hey all,

Just had a quick question about your use of ITV 22 plugs. From everywhere I've read, it's stating that we should only use the ITV22 plug in our cars if you are running some sort of AP that turns up your boost, otherwise it will cause premature plug fouling, however there are places I've read that if you use a 1 step colder plug it will help turbo cars generally run better because they run such high pressures internally and rich anyhow.

So my concern and question for you all is, since I installed them in my car at .28 gap and I have no AP of any sort or are ever going to, should I just run them till they foul then get a set of the ITV 20's Denso site recommends or would you advise taking them out now and changing them to the 20s? Keep in my the car is running awesome and only had KR of 2.2 for the first block of driving after change and now it's always at 0 KR, so I think i'm gonna be ok, but what are your feelings about this.?
Thanks.

OK, the answer to your question is....it depends. Depending on climactic conditions where you live and your engine's unique characteristics, you might have issues with plug fouling, you might not. The point of running colder plugs is to avoid a pre-ignition hot spot forming from the plug being unable to evacuate its heat to the head and being hotter than the chamber. Now, colder plugs won't help in really rich environments because they don't get hot enough to burn off carbon deposits and unconsumed fuel.

If you aren't seeing alot of KR and aren't melting the tips, regardless of whether you've turned up the boost or not, you likely don't need colder plugs.

I just stuck 22s in for s**** and giggles, what with summer coming and hotter temps imminent at the track, I felt a bit of headroom would help me make more unhindered passes.

hey Dark, that was my thinking as well it's getting hot out and the car usually runs crappy when it's hot so I figured what the hell, plus got all 4 for 20 bucks so couldn't beat that. I'll probably end up getting a Hypertech reflash in the next few weeks so guess it can't hurt to have the step colder plugs already in.

I'm running them in 10 degree C weather right now and they seem fine. Car starts and runs as normal. Hopefully the 20+ degree weather returns soon.

just installed $20 bosch plantium #2 at advancepart. car stalling when start in cold weather, after engine gets warm everything seems be fine, no stalling....?? should i go back to stock plugs??

Yes go back to stock plugs for sure, Bosch platinum is known for misfires, they are not good plugs at all! or get a set of Denso Itv20's that's what I would recommend they make one of the best plugs on the market period!

Never Never NEVER use Platinums in a Turbocharged motor. You will melt the plugs and cause engine damage. Swap them out for Stocks As Soon As Possible to Avoid engine problems.
