What have you done to your MSP today?

so, after a couple days of driving on raised boost, I must say, the results are very satisfying. takes a bit longer to build boost, as you'd expect, but instead of feeling like the car is starving over 4000RPMs, it continues to build power how I feel it was supposed to originally. fantastic how this car never stops making me fall in love with it again. now, to get a set of tires for my damn FDs.

wagon you're using the joep mbc right? any spiking with it? i've got one sitting around somewhere i've been thinking of slapping on there

The spring in mine is somewhat rusted, which I think is part of the reason its not spiking, but I only got one spike out of it when I was dialing it in, and that was a 7psi spike before holding at 5 lbs (how this happened, I don't know, but I watched it happen).

I ran it for a week trying to figure out what the problem was, and after I pulled it apart, I found the spring was all bound up and caught on the inside.

I'm also on a forge WGA... so anyone who claims Forge WGAs have spiking issues needs to come talk to me so I can set em strait. lol

right now, a solid 9 lbs, no spike.

but anyways, I had 1 too before the ebc came with my new spicy, you really have to have it on the lightest setting (at least I did) to get it set to 8psi, and for me it didn't spike at all, and built boost really fast, it was a great mbc, I would have kept it in there if I didn't have the ebc for free with the car

edit: damn once again I'm too slow on the post

I posted that RIGHT before he did, so it probably wasn't up while he was posting.

and I have my controller set about 2/3 of the way in, so it should be a pretty "high" setting, this is why I think the spring being rusted is effecting it.

ya, you should find a new spring or something, when I had mine, it was a little lubricated (it was brand new.. so ya) but at first when I thought I had it at the furthest out setting, I boosted to 10psi, which was really fun lol, but what I had to do to get it to 8psi was barely get it like 1/2 in the first thread, just enough to hold the screw in there, and then tighten it down good, at it was a perfect 8, and I had the spring that was for really fine tuning adjustments so there must be something wrong with yours

k, I would just keep an eye on it, and if it does spike or anything like that ( I would think if the spring is rusted that eventually it would go) then i'd replace it asap, but until then I guess your all set

lol ya really, never heard of rust not making things much worse hah... oh but actually I don't know if this could happen but I was thinking maybe it is rusted so that it is stuck from going all the way.. or something haha, basically the rust is keeping you from over boosting and if it does "release or let go" then it would go to the amount of boost it is set to and over-boost, but I'm not exactly sure how that would work so whatever.. I guess you don't have the sensitive spring right? so I don't really know the settings on that thing, I just know with the really sensitive one, to get 8psi it had to be set way far out..but ya anyways.. I'm just crazy bored right now, I have to wait for my brother to take and finish his last final which doesn't start until 4 (it's 3:15 now) and it should take about 1 1/2 hours at least to finish.. and I was done this morning, and I already cleaned the room before check out and stuff lol so have nothing else to do.. that's all

I 'believe' the rust is reducing the spring rate of the spring, which means the screw has to put more pressure on it to attain the same boost.

if it breaks, the spring will basically get shorter, and unless it binds, it'll basically just act like there is no boost controller there at all.

I believe that some MBC's probably are pretty good, but since EBC's are known to usually work better I chose to go that route since high boost on our engine is bad juju.
