How to build a retaining wall.

So, I will document how this goes here. Santos said he will help, undetermined when though. Anyone else? I will start Thurs. most likely. Pics soon on Thurs. of the material. I hope it will be as epic as the Yellow Jacket thread.

So.........my retaining wall materials come Thursday. 300 block, 1 yard Traffic Bond, 2 yards #1 wash stone. See this thread for details.

Can't do it. It will probably take most of the week. Just some sporadic help with the heavy lifting. I can level s*** on my own. I need help carrying/removing railroad ties, maybe some digging/wheelbarrow action.

I'll let you know how far I am at that point. Like I said, it's not really an all day thing any particular day, although I plan to remove most of the ties on Sat/Sun. Come when you can, leave when you have to.

Anytime dude, but probably earlier in the week if you will be labor. If you have experience in this like Santos, maybe a little later in the week to help level, build, etc.

Here is my "tentative" plan, subject to change at any moment.

Thurs., 5/20/10: Get materials, remove fence section, start doing short side wall, and 1-2 level areas (I have a few of these only like 2-4 bricks long).

Fri., 5/21/10: Finish up side wall, this may even run into Sat.

Sat., 5/22/10: Major work starts. Remove back wall. That may take all day. If not, dig trench deeper for traffic bond.

Sun.: Fill trench with traffic bond, which has to be tamped down, and possibly lay 1st course.

Mon. or whatever day works well. Finish up courses while doing backfill every 2 bricks high or so. Wall will be 6 courses high.

Ehh. Same thing. Basically digging, making a form, pouring, vs. Digging, filling, tamping, building. Block is much cleaner, and probably less work overall. Concrete work effin sucks, LOL!
